I myself went with the Swarovski Z8i 1,7-13,3-42 due to advice on this forum, a little heavier then I might have wanted initially but now that I got used to it I find it very versatile.

Wow! who is the maker? I think the bag is made by WR?

If the Swarovski Z6 1.7-10x42 is a 99 out of 100 the Meopta Meopro R2 is a 97 out of 100 - but much cheaper
:) in the field with Buffalo in sight or charging I bet based on the above no.s no one will notice the difference...

All great responses so far, I love the fact that it makes me think over and hard..BTW I'm willing to change from 1-6 to 2-10. Just not decided:)
Well, we’ve talked about a one-rifle hunt (.375 H&H only) for both DG & PG. So lots of suggested scopes to consider.

If it’s a two-rifle battery, one dedicated exclusively to DG and the other exclusively to PG, that actually simplifies the issue in my view, especially given your stated ranges for each type of game.

Of those I would take the Trijicon.

But I went with the Leica Amplus 1-6 and have been thrilled with it.

I have a Zeiss Conquest 1-6 and older but unused Leupold 1-4 that are both about to be listed for sale here.

Thanks, I have that already sorted out with a 470NE for DG and a 338 Win Mag with a Leupold VX-5HD 2-10 X 42 - Firedot for PG. I can switch depending on PG/DG, legality and use the 9.3X62 with a Swaro Z3 4-12X50 with a BT.

So I'm set hopefully.

Good luck then!

Nothing here has changed my mind on the current scope on my .404J. But I may reconsider my .350 Magnum’s scope for PG based on Phil’s YT vid above.

My Decision and thoughts -
A sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to share suggestions, advice, opinions, and even disagreements especially those where we managed to disagree agreeably.

I’ve always believed that diverse opinions usually leads to better decisions, and this thread has been a great example of that. Before I went completely crazy (just kidding!), I decided to take a route I hadn’t originally considered: a 1.7–10×42 with an illuminated reticle.

Only time will tell how it performs when the .375 H&H gets some field time, but I’m confident that, with everyone’s input, I’ve done my due diligence in choosing both the rifle and scope.
Thanks again, gentlemen. I’ve enjoyed the discussion and genuinely appreciate the experience and knowledge shared here.

Been using 1-4 s&b and 1-6 swaro straight tubes for years, never needed anything else over there, I don’t shoot at anything much past 200 though. Did 1 safari with open sights only, plan to do that again at some point.

I don’t like anything tactical looking on a safari rifle, it’s like putting Rosie O’Donnells head on top of a super model body.

Exactly. Good analogy.

So, if I may ask, what is your idea of a tactical looking scope? Do u thinnk that the scope I order is tactical looking?
BTW I beleive in functionality over looks!

I have a Meopta R2 1-6x24 RD (which is the pricier top-of-the-line version of the Meopta listed in the poll) mounted on my 303 British for short-range hunting in the dense jungle brush around the Mississippi hunting camp. It has been a pretty good scope but on this particular model, the crosshairs are a bit thinner than I would have liked. But it has been a good choice simply because a Ruger No. 1A can be difficult to mount scopes on especially when I seem to need more eye relief than the average shooter. Also, finding Meopta's in the USA is not as easy as it once was. Is that model actually in stock anywhere?

For my 30-06's, 9.3x74r & 375 H&H, I'm a big fan of the 1.5~8x range of scopes. One of my all-time favorite scopes, the Schmidt & Bender 1.5-8x42 Stratos, is mounted on my LH Sako 85 Hunter. I love this scope. My LH Winchester Model 70 Safari Express has the Swarovski Z6 1.7-10x42 on it which a few earlier posters have already suggested. I was surprised to see it was no longer listed on the Swarovski web site and a Google search said that the Z6 line had been discontinued. I guess I would get the Z5 2-10x42 instead today. When not wearing the Swaro, I have had the Schmidt & Bender Zenith 1.1-4x24 mounted on my 375 H&H which has really nice clarity and for my bad eyes with glasses, a generous & forgiving view.

My Ruger No. 1S in 9.3x74r has a Minox ZA5 1.5-8x32 on it. I like it a lot simply because it has the zoom range that works well for the hunting I do & it is small & compact which is what I prefer on my falling blocks.

Nice write up and all good scopes, and you like them, nothing else is more important!. As to your question the Meopta's M2 are available at discounted rates in the US.

I think it is next to impossible to disagree with that scope, but they are really fucking expensive.
That will get me a very good used rifle or atleast a nice PG safari. Depends on your choices :)

I think your decision should start with - what is your range and what is your target. General plainsgame and DG - pretty much everything under 300m and 99% from 20-200 m. For me, I like a 1x for close up and probably 4 x is the absolute minimum. So your choices at1-6 are right on the money. Nightforce do a 1-8 that I would look at. My 30-06 wore a fixed 4x for many years and now has a 4-12. I don't think I have moved it off 4x on a hunt except once when I went to about 6 on an impala at about 275 m and I didn't even take that shot. On the range, a little more magnification is nice. So I think you are right on the money with your magnification choice but might consider a 1-8 depending on your preference. Red dot on the centre of the crosshairs would be my other requirement. For the record, I live in africa, have been hunting and fishing for 30 years, some of it professionally. Magnification is great for targets but less in hunting. I have never seen someone not take a shot because they didn't have enough magnification, but pretty much every hunt I filmed had a case of too much magnification- I can't see or hurriedly changing magnification.

Your thoughts are appreciated and to the point. You may have seen in my earlier post, based on the recommendation from many (that have vast experience) and know much more than yours truly I went for a 1.7–10×42 with an illuminated reticle. I guess we will find out next July when the rubber meets the road :)

I think large turrets and side parallax or illumination knobs look “tactical”, also large objective lenses. That is just wholly my opinion, don’t expect everyone to agree. I feel that between Swaro and trijicon you have illumination options that are clean and sleek looking as well as great optical performance. S&b has been my favorite scope brand for 25 years, their scopes are heavy duty, the optical performance is on a different level, and the erectors have never failed on any of the 5 units I own. Swaro I feel has the best illumination system from a classy clean look, own 1 illuminated and 1 non both in the 1-6 magnification, great scopes. S&b zenith imo are the classiest looking scopes ever made.
