Thanks everyone, was invited down to Bill's place one weekend for some '74 Sharps rifle black powder shooting on his 500 meter home range, paper patch bullet casting, as well as learning to cut the patches that you wrap the bullets with, lube disk [grease cookie] melting and cutting too, I got to see him hammer out and fold the Damascus steel of my knife blade on a coal fired forge, I could tell he was working, he was beginning to lose strength in his hands at that stage of later life, mine is the very last Damascus Bowie he ever made, it was the coolest and one of the most educational weekends I have had in my entire life.

Will also agree, every Hunter needs a blade afield, or two, I carried both.

A knife on guided Safari is needed like Courtenay Boots and a $100,000 double rifle. African safari jewelry. If it makes you happy, do it! You are in Africa for the romance and adventure. Whatever you bring to enhance that feeling works! Have fun!

Im thinking we could maybe do an AH version of it...

what if I built a knife... then we spend the next 3-5 years shuffling it around to various members that will be hunting around the world... ship it with a nice leather bound journal.. each hunter that takes it on a trip simply signs and dates the journal and advises where they hunted, what they hunted, etc.. and maybe provides a single paragraph about the experience.. maybe include a pic of it being worn or used or just present..

when the journal is full (whether thats a year, or 10).. auction off the knife and send all the money to a hunting or conservation related non profit..

stupid idea? or would anyone be interested? Im leaving for Croatia in 6 hours.. I could actually start the process today and just take one of my knives thats already built but never been used on a hunt before..

You make your bag more difficult to get into than most.

My wife and I have been using Pelican Protector 1560’s with TSA locks on them for travel, both foreign and domestic. They will most certainly find an easier target than ours. Not 100% reliable, but the odds are stacked in our favor.

Option B is to become a Federal Air Marshal, but that only works in the US.

Store it in your gun case if your traveling with one….

Remember, when you spend that kind of money and endure that long flight for your hunt, you want to "dress for success"!

The dapper hunter always has the correct knife on his belt even if he does not know which side is sharp!

I'll not besmirch a fellow for carrying a knife at all. After all, most follks who pitch up seem to already enjoy playing a part, be it cutting an elephant tail, smoking a cigar, cheersing a drink of whisky, accusing mbogo of looking at him as though he owes him money, or a host of other things. A knife is but a thing.

With that in mind, I have always like the knife that PHC carried on his Namibian elephant hunt and lucked into an American version for a little bit of nothing. I'll gladly carry it anywhere just because...
