The 400 grain CEB Safari Solids give good accuracy and regulation in my 450/400. The holes in the target however show evidence that the bullets have some yaw at 25 and 50 yards. This is a very long bullet and seems to be marginally stable in my particular gun. Has anyone played with the 350 grain Safari solid in this cartridge? SD is still excellent at something like .314 but it is shorter so should be more stable at the same twist.
 
Have not tried that CEB bullet in the 450/400 NE 3". I have used the 370 grain Safari Raptor with great success on cape buffalo and American Bison. Devasting!
 
I have had good results with the CEB 350 gr Solid out of my .416 Taylor going 2480 fps. - Killed a nice Elephant with it. Also excellent results with the CEB 325 gr Raptor going 2550 fps- one shot kill on a Buffalo, Croc, and Hippo.

What speeds would you get out of a 450/400 3"?
 
Probably 2150-2200.
 
I found one custom ammo loader that advertises the 350 grain Swift at 2340, but I would likely play it more conservative.
 
I would say test it out for sure! They are not that expensive either. I would see how fast you can push it too, just to know. I never hit pressure with them but didn't have the time to before my safari. I got an acceptable speed with a moderate load and just went with it.

They may go faster than you think with less bearing surface than a normal bullet. And speed imo will help with stability, getting through that rifling faster

Are you planning an Ele hunt?
