My wife tells me I’m a “prepper” I prefer the term hillwilliam myself ( hillwilliam noun similar to a hillbilly only better educated and with more teeth )
With that being said I do split my time during most of the months I’m not commercially fishing between logging and preparing for the following winter. This year has gone quite well harvested over an apple bin full of potatoes out of the garden. Got enough various other vegetables preserved in various manners to see us most of the way through the winter.
My firewood is about 90 percent done I’ve got half a tear worth of room left in the wood shed. The wood is blocked and split in the yard just got to take an evening and put it in. That’ll give me five cord under cover which is enough dry I’ll supplement it with another three cords or so of green when fishing slacks off over the winter.
Built a new meat cooler this last weekend and just got the wireing done on it today. My pigs are going to have a bad day Saturday morning. Also have 30 or so young roosters to butcher in the coming days.
Anyone else do any winter prepping ? How’s your summer been?

Anyway, the last 2 weekends were all about firewood...cutting (luckily ALL deadfall Ash, and additional Cherry/Oak/Maple that toppled over in the 100+ MPH winter windstorms, so it's pretty easy pickings (we simply cleared logging roads and filled up a FE loader and trailer numerous times. (In the actual forest I see several years worth of wood for all 3 places (mom's, my place, and a shop.) 2 woodstoves and a wood furnace in my house with both oil and propane backup (w/ backup propane generator.) We moved the wood furnace to a 3 car garage and I'm half-tempted to put some sort of heat source under the shop driveway as it's a steep downhill 100' run (chains/4wd are necessities for access to that rather important building, including a fueling area.) I had help with the cutting/splitting, one hunter dubbed "white gloves" didn't show up in favor of a VT or beach vaca (and my 85 y/o Mom mocked him-I sent him her texts-Hilarious! She stacks wood, and it's all cut/split but only about 20% stacked at present.) ALL the distant neighbors and lifelong friends are super helpful IF anyone runs out of wood (they'll dump of a load N/P and we do the same for them if necessary!) The e-provider is actually a user-owned rural cooperative (no union, no corruption, no 10x higher bil, data centers, et. al.) not the 6x greater bill that I have to pay closer to NYC. Can't wait to retire and say adios to them!!! Parents took us to NS as kids on the Blue Nose and later took our motorcycles over from Boothbay Harbor to Yarmouth and rode all the way up to Cape Breton-AMAZING scenery (people, and food!!!) Enjoy your Winter (I have to think it's a bit milder along the coast, but perhaps only in Temps.) I'm at like 2,000 ft elevation and exposed in old farm fields/pastures, and it gets rough, but it's nice inside IF you prep. I do have a root/fruit cellar in the one house but don't use it as of yet (I put wine/beer in it. LOL) But, I recall doing that with my G. Grandparents as a kid, the ball jar factory is still alive and well and I will have a much larger garden, so I'll probably resume doing that (clean, healthy food you control yourself!!!) And I've heard everything, but I prefer what my friends in TX call me (Montaine Wilhelm!) LOL There are many other names.
