I mean...if planning a big trip, for a pair of special rifles, I'd go big. And if planning on your dime and budget...I'd step up to a multi-country affair. Maybe start with Buzz tracking a lion or larger ele bull, or whatever primary game you would want to kick off with for the first 12-15 days, then I'd move over to Mozambique or Uganda, do a double or triple buffalo safari for another 10-14 days, and finish with a 21-day full-bag in Tanzania with either Mike Fell or Kilombero North. And let me know if you need a gun bearer or someone to carry the misses purse even...I'm your huckleberry.

That's the kind of idea I like! I still need to hunt something with my Mannlicher Schoenauer 458, I too was thinking maybe doing a multiple Buffalo hunt so I could use both. And that last part is hilarious.

So damn true...sadly with maybe April being also a bit larger and August even smaller. I definitely gravitate towards Hawaii in December thru February...but then when the muddy breakup happens, I am ready to go somewhere in April too.
I'll be shooting 525gr so that should help. Moose and Bear with yours would be a great hunt. Mark Crudgington says that with the peep sight up the gun will be even more accurate than just the leafs out to 200 yards. Interesting but for me it's kind of unimportant as I like hunting Dangerous Game as close as possible, think the longest shot I've taken is around 35 yards. Mark says mine will weigh in a 10 1/2 lbs so a little lighter than yours.

Totally agree with you on up close and personal, which is why I have fallen so deeply for doubles on dangerous game. The only reason the 505 has a scope presently is I was considering going to Uganda in February...still may, all depends on how crazy I get in Zim this October...and in that open Karamojo North area, there are times where you cannot get within iron-sight, double range. If I can't hit it with a double consistently, I cannot likely do a lot better with iron sighted bolt gun either...so figured the scope would be a smart option...and helps for load development as well. I do like the peep idea, smart alternative.
Hmmm you might think about Zambia? The lions in and around Kafue NP are really something special with big black manes and the leopards are good-sized as well. I hunted Kasonso Busanga for sitatunga, sable, buffalo, red lechwe, puku, bushbuck, etc... and they kill great cats there. You could then transfer to the Zambezi concession in Zambia for elephant. Friends of mine killed two big bulls there this year - 60+ and 70+ pounds. You could also transfer to the Bangweulu Swamp for black lechwe and to Kafue Flats for Kafue lechwe on your way home after getting the Big 4. That would be quite a trip! Then you just need a rhino to finish. Of course, Tanzania or Mozambique would be good options as well for a big, long safari.
Back when I hunted in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe in the 1970s, there used to be a gunsmith named Ted Ottie who did Sealous plates on a couple of .458 Winchester Magnum FN Mauser Series 400s.
