ZIMBABWE: Elephant On Fire

For someone whose first language isn’t English you wrote an incredible report. It really captures the adventure well. I appreciate you taking time to write. You had a great hunt.

Two things I couldn’t believe reading this report though. One, that might best be the best selection of rental rifles in Zimbabwe. Two, I can’t believe Vaughn is standing in that water to fish with potential crocs!

@mark-hunter I’m glad we were able to connect in PM and you were able to make this hunt happen. It was great getting the daily play by play from you and Vaughan over the course of your hunt. More so, I value the friendship we’ve developed and look forward to your WhatsApp messages each day. It’s great to hear about your hunting and fishing and see/understand the meaning of hunting to someone from another country. Good luck on your upcoming hunt, I’m pulling for you despite my pessimism. Looking forward to sharing camp and a beer with you one day.

@375Fox he wades into the water frequently. It took a few minutes to convince myself to do the same.
When we were camping by the river earlier this year while elephant hunting along the Botswana border and he handed me a towel and soap and told me to head down to the river while he started grilling. Suggested I wade across the first pool to the sandbar and take a bath in the rapids with the deep channel but told me to keep scanning with my flash light looking for red eyes in the dark. The cold water in March did feel great on my joints and cuts after a full day of tracking elephant. Still haven’t rationalized spear fishing in Kariba and some of the other places with all the crocs, but never say never.

Wonderful report and writing, and fantastic shooting. I think the pictures of the fire around the elephant are some of the most striking memories that you could ever hope for.

True, indeed!

Thank you!

Marko, that is a story most fantastically told! As a reader I am quickly teleported from the chair and computer screen into the African bush, looking over your shoulder as you're aiming for that half-hidden prey. Smelling the smoke of the fires, as the flames draw ever closer.

Congratulations on your amazing trip, the trophies taken, and your skills as a writer!

Congrats on a excellent hunt and adventure. The way you told it was quite a class of its own well done!

@cmk
@Frederik

Thank you friends!

the story is a year in the making, based on short notes in diary in two languages i took in the evenings.
Plus mix of photos from mobile phone and camera that needed to be sorted out

I thought, a hunt of a lifetime deserves nothing less.

Btw, ivory now is in Frankfurt, and shortly will arrive home.

This. This is AH.com at its best! You sir had one hell of a safari. You also have a real talent for writing. You should consider submitting your report to SCI Safari or African Hunting Gazette for publication.

Thank you, highly appreciated!

I tried once with AHG, but they need article of not more then 2500 words. And I am a weak person, becasue I cannot cut short my story, and I dont know how..... :cry:

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Great hunt report! Thank you for taking the time to share in such detail.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.
