I was there last October, Elephant were all over the place…just FYI. Should prove an Amazingly awesome hunt.

If someone takes the later dates…I can share what seen as I arrive October 11th and there through sometime around the 27th or slightly later.

Great camp, beautiful area with lots and lots of ele, hippo and croc. Even that late in the heat, great place to have a chance at hippo on dry land.

Last October, where he fell…bone dry!

what's the temp that that time of year?

Ain’t cold! September would prove more mild, I was there 2nd half of October and it was upper 90’s to low 100’s during peak heat of the day, think the hottest I saw was around 108-109 in the shade. It’s hot at night too, but was so surprisingly comfortable.

I’m in Alaska and lived here the last 21+ years. We go to Hawaii a couple/three times a year and my wife makes fun as I won’t rent a house, even on the water, without A/C…so admit I was a little curious if not concerned how I’d fare in the higher temps, especially at night trying to sleep.

I loved it. It’s such a dry time of year that I was totally comfortable whether out hunting or at night sleeping. You need to make sure to keep hydrated and do use Liquid IV or other water hydrates to keep your salt levels and everything in check, especially if enjoying nightly adult beverages.

They have fans and Omay North has nice open chalets so you get nice air movement and with the fan I was super happy and loved it so much I booked for the same timeframe this year and then over to Nyakasanga for October next year.

November is supposedly warmer and can get downright hot, and even drier still. They bring tons of cold water on the cruisers so they’ll keep pushing water and hydrates throughout the day.

The heat and dry weather does really make for awesome hunting too as the game really keys into available water sources and with all the leaves off, you can see longer distances and since the leaves are off for a while by that time, it’s not like walking through an open bag of potato chips, with the leaves more drifted up in places. It’s dry, dry, so if you step on piled leaves, super loud, but it’s not a total blanket of leaves like when they first fall.

I really love this later time of year in Zimbabwe, and it fits great with Alaska’s earlier hunting seasons as well, maybe not at much for hunters in the lower 48, but I wouldn’t let the heat dissuade you. It will be hot, but pleasantly so and the hunting makes it so worth while.

The elephants really start congregating in closer to the Umi and the lake. Dalton knows way, way better than me, but can say I saw a LOT of elephant last year and wasn’t looking for them. Since elephant bull is on the list for me this year, that’s exactly why I’m heading back in October.

Think September would be just as good (I had a conflict with another hunt and October is my birthday, so no brainer for me) and the guys have told me they love hunting November, while it’s super hot, they make it sound like some of the best hunting of the year…other than for cats.

I understand this is a question for the PH but does anyone know if one has the option to hold out for an elephant with larger broken tusk or must take a 20# if it is the fist to present itself? Any flexibility in choosing?

No the obligation to shoot either a one tusker or elephant under 30 pounds is under clients discretion and may make the call on the ground
