Must be nice…

I hear it quite often as well, we are debt free, drive old cars and trucks. I don’t belong to a hunting club any longer. The biggest thing is our kids are self sufficient and we both are in pretty good health.
It’s all about priorities. Right now my priority is getting back to Africa at least 2 more times.

How come nobody ever says it must be nice when you are going to rip shingles off a roof after working a normal work day to make some extra money. I certainly didn’t here it when I was staying in the shop until 2am detail sanding dozens of door and drawer fronts so I could finish a project early to squeeze in an extra day of the whitetail rut. Weird right?

Nobody ever sees what you live
Without, nor the extra shifts at work or the extra job you picked up. My wife doesn’t even notice until it inconveniences her!
No guilt brother, I didn’t inherit a damn thing, I earned every penny of it.

I too work in a world around people that say “must be nice” or they say things like “Guys like that probably go down to Texas and shoot a deer in a fenced in yard”

And that’s why I never share any of it with them.

Because it is nice, and it’s nothing like the Texas story they’ve concocted in their minds to make excuses for the jealousy of others and shame of being life long F ups.

Y’all are right F them. I will gladly share the stories of my hunts with those who can appreciate the adventures and support the effort it takes to fulfill a dream of hunting in Africa or other locations.

The other people are too busy living miserable lives.

So my best friend and I have an ongoing joke, where I say I am hunting somewhere and he always says "Must be nice".

Whenever he buys a new toy, I always tell him, "you can't hide money".

I had a relative say that to me once….then I explained his trip to Disney cost more than my last safari.

Some hunting folks still dont realize that hunting in Africa and Europe is often less expensive than an elk hunt out west. Go with an “own use” or non trophy hunt and it’s even better. And no drawing a tag.
I have a relative who told my kids it must be nice to “live our life of luxury”…I promptly told him it was the last Christmas he would be invited to my home and that he may be able to have nicer things if he did not literally burn all of his money up in smoke.

Also add in questions such as
"Did you have to remove a diaper from that bear before you took your photos?"
Retort for that later in the hunting season was being asked to inspect your non-lethal shotgun when hunting pheasants after a big push through cattails. All in good fun!

A few years ago, a nurse asked me what this medication was that I'd listed on the "current medication" list while checking in for a routine procedure. I explained it was a new medication (~1 year from FDA approval) and very uncommon, so it's not a surprise she didn't recognize it. I explained it was so uncommon that I needed to get special authorization from the VA for the RX because the once-a-month injection costs something like $4,000 a month. It took a few months but the VA ultimately approved it because it's related to treating the after effects of a TBI sustained during combat operations in Afghanistan. I said I was approved because, unfortunately, the drug allergy listed on the same form is for the common (and much, much cheaper) prophylaxis. I then said how life changing the drug has been for me--enabling me to live a "normal" life without a constant fear of having a medical episode and that it's been nothing short of a miracle.

She looked at me and quite seriously responded, "Wow, and they pay for that? Must be nice."

After that, I no longer get mad at the phrase. Some people will never understand.

Nobody ever said to me when I was working two jobs "It must be nice".

The best is when you own your own business that is at least reasonably successful and you can finally take a trip at the last minute on a cancellation hunt.
“It must be nice to go on vacation whenever you want”
Yeah after years married to the job and never getting time to do anything for 10 years.
I think people just assume successful business make money from day one

Dave, I could use both of them if still available. I just picked up a new .22 mag and a .22 pump that they would be perfect on.

Dan who is C. W. Richter? He seems to not be a fan of myself!
