Good Gun Deals This Week

@migrabill
As in it's sold to be a bare bones less expensive no frills rifle for Professional Hunters, hence the "PH" model.

The Rigby Big Game comes standard with grade 5 wood and a plethora of options.

I get that but if I had an Big Game in an African DG Caliber I would hunt with it maybe once every 2 or 3 years. A highland Stalker would be my go to deer rifle, hog rifle etc. I would hunt with it several times every year. It would be way more of a "working" rifle. Maybe that just means I don't go to Africa often enough!
Noone makes it to Africa often enough!

Was going to post this earlier since I never seem to keep Dakotas and with my surprise bighorn hunt setting me back another $20k I hadn’t planned on right before my second trip to Zimbabwe in 6 months…I tried to resist. Then thought better of it.

this will be a hard one to pass on. good looking rifle, surely a favorite in Africa. Bought a BRNO .458 Lott this morning.

In another caliber I would have already bought it. Not sure I need to put up with the recoil when I have a 416 and 404 now :)

Do folks just walk in there and sell the gun to them? Trade in? I'm stopping by next Tuesday.
Yes. A lot of walk-ins and G&S also has a guy that buys a considerable amount of guns from online auctions they resell. If that was a Gen. II EE, I saw the listing previously, did not review now, but I don’t even think they marketed it as being an EE.

Hey, didn’t you just sell a Dakota 76, 458 Win Mag last year? Lol. The 458 Lott is more versatile and I’m guessing the deciding factor was the scope! Congratulations, excellent rifle and scope! :)

Wow. I butchered that. :-)

Man..Nobody needs an excuse to own a battery of Big Bore rifles that could each individually anchor a boat. But somehow deciding which one comes to Africa could be harder than the actual dangerous game :)

Yes, I sold the 458WM I bought last year. I had a Z6i 1-6 EE I wanted to put on my 505 Gibbs but talked myself out of it and instead mounted a redundant Z8i 1-8 I had, and while I haven’t scoped myself yet, it’s made slight contact a couple times and knocked my ballcap several, so regretted parting with the Z6i EE. Figured I’d wanted to try out a Lott for a while, on the fence between getting a Heym Martini in Lott or a Rigby BGR in 450 Rigby…so this was the perfect piece to pick up to play with for a bit, swap the scope to my Gibbs, and if I love the rifle, I’ll put the Z8i on it, and keep it, or after my experimenting, offer it up sans a scope.

This one was a consignment piece and owner was kind in accepting a lower offer as well.

I think you might be my hero

That's my dilemma. Cape Buff trip planned for 2028. The Dakota 416 Rigby, or the Heym 404 Jeffery?...

The 404J is cool, real cool, but I’d never give up my Rigby 416 for a 404J in any rifle. Love the true magnum length action, ease of finding ammo if something was lost or temporarily delayed, with lots a quality factory ammo options. Plus it’s a Rigby Rifle, Mauser action in 416 Rigby. Better than great. It would be the last dangerous game rifle I’d part with, and even feel treasonous for leaving it behind when I take a double to Africa.

Last October I brought the Rigby 416 as my croc and plainsgame rifle…but my 450NE was so accurate out to 100yrds that I mostly used it for everything other than the croc. But in April with only elephant on the list, it stayed behind and felt like I was betraying my wife or something.

In October, I’ll be a downright dog, taking two doubles, my new 89b 500NE for elephant again and then my scoped 88b 375 Flanged Mag for anything small, and now bait animals since looks like leopard added to the list. While aligned with my present double fascination, still feels dirty leaving the Rigby behind.

My .450 rigby always feels spited when I leave it behind!

I need to give a big shout out to Wildwillalaska!

Unknowingly he gave my bank account a breather.

Thank you sir!
