Is Heym a Sponsor on here?

can you just go to Gordy & son’s to order one?
 
If you reach Chris, don’t waste time asking to order a catalog. Work on ordering what you want.

He doesn’t have actual paper catalogs to mail out, even at SCI. When I got my first rifle from Chris, I asked for one and he said since they got the catalog and photos on the website, that is the catalog. So the whole request a catalog is a residual aged info on the website from days past.
 
That is interesting for sure.
 
I would never hesitate to purchase a used Heym in excellent working order if I wanted it.

I would not purchase a new rifle from them after reading this thread. Bad behavior should not be rewarded with a purchase. Not that I ever would have anyway, I’m thrilled with Dakota/Parkwest’s CS and my next rifle will be a Rigby London Best in .450 Rigby. I understand that they like money at Rigby, the website is current, phones get answered and so do questions!

Not only that, they will accommodate you. I was sitting and having a latte with Jerome from Rigby at their tent in Atlanta. I mentioned that I had always wanted a left hand bolt action Manlicher style rifle. He showed me his personal Waffen Jung rifle video and asked to give him a few minutes to check with the shop if they could do it, and the cost. He said, yep and told me the cost.

I have a London Best, LH Manlicher style on order now in 9.3x62.

Thanx! Chris sent me 3 emails and called me today! I am supposed to call him tomorrow to "price one up" and see where it falls. I will say that he said the base price before any options is 16K on a Martini Express. That's closer to the Rigby than I would've thought.
 
I have been researching this Rigby vs Heym thing issue for most of the day. It is generally considered Rigby has the better irons. That doesn't really mean much to me as I will put a scope on it and not use it for buffalo. What Rigby has, at least to me, is Romanticism. The name, the history, the mention in classical African novels. That weighs heavy on me. But - some of the things I like about Heym. 1) You actually pick the slab of wood you want. With Rigby you order "Grade 5" or "Grade 7". With Heym they show you actual samples of wood that are available and you get to pick it. 2) With the Rigby Big Game the length of pull is 14 1/2. With Heym the length of pull is custom made to you. 3) The Color case hardening is important to me. With the $3500 Color case harden option with Heym the entire action is colored. The color case hardening ($ unknow to me so far) the much less of the metal up top is colored. It also seems that if I were to custom order either, the Heym would be available MUCH quicker.
Is any of the above wrong? This is a tough decision.

Through the Australia distributor I have always been given the option of picking the actual piece of wood for any rifle I have ordered, both Big Game & Highland Stalker. Rigby will do custom LOP but at a cost. Rigby will colour case harden anything you want, you can choose only specific parts or choose to have floor plate, action, scope rings etc all done. The highland stalker I just took delivery of was hand selected wood with color case hardened action and sfaety housing. Delivery time of this rifle was around 12 months.

With a one to three year wait to receive a new, paid for rifle, perhaps Heym is at their maximum production capacity and doesn't need any more business. Why pay for more advertising when Heym is selling everything they can produce?

With potentially more rifles that could be sold, why wouldn't Heym desire to expand with new facilities, more precision machinery, and training skilled personnel to produce rifle parts and assemble their their much in demand products?

Perhaps Heym operating within its current facilities, machinery, and personnel capabilities is at its Point of Production Efficiency. If Heym tries to increase production, the cost per unit will rise and quality may suffer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Productive_efficiency

Heym produces all the parts of their rifles in house and provides barrels at least to Krieghoff for their double rifles. Heym rifles are the highest of German precision. They are beautiful in their Germanic way and durable, very durable.

The subject of why heym doesn't increase production reminds of the long thread on Rolex watches. Rolex seems to like the high demand for their products. High demand is free marketing!
Perhaps Heym is similar. If you want one bad enough, you will get in line...
