For trade - One kidney (well used) for airfare

Well, you could drive to Austin.
When it’s for me personally, I check them all DFW, Austin, Houston, and even San Antonio sometimes.
If it’s a work trip like this and I need to make a 730 flight out of DFW the savings needs to be well over $100/hour of drive time to justify waking up that early

So Gracy, minus fee, was cheaper than orbits?

I typically use Nicole with Gracy and will confirm they’re often times cheaper. I had one trip where I was able to book it direct significantly cheaper. Being a multi country trip, I booked that leg and Gracy still handled everything for that country plus the others.

I went through Nicole there as well.

I don't think the math adds up. The Straits transits about 20% of the global market, right? The pipelines that were in place for years to help with this type of issue transports about 30% of the amount that the Straits. So, why are the prices this high? American airlines said they have no reason to lower prices since people are still flying. That tells me that is only about price gouging.

Markets don’t like uncertainty. Airlines don’t buy fuel on the daily, but from futures contracts. If there’s any uncertainty, they crank up the fees to provide margin if things go bad.

Besides, a small drop in supply can equate to a huge rise in price. The supply-demand curve for oil can be nasty. Much of the world’s energy consumption is fixed. It’s only the non-essential stuff that can move downward when prices are high to relax demands.

It has all been going up even before the Iran conflict began. I pay the highest prices of most anyone due to my home airport being San Angelo and being AA captive. I am trying to get my SJT-DFW leg done for Pakistan in December (Turkish DFW-IST-KHI). I was waiting for it to get cheaper than $488rt but looks like it is just going to go up. Imagine a 36 minute flight round trip for nearly $500! Y'all got anything worse than that?
Last trip I made I parked at DFW in the garage for 28 days was under $200. Have to prepay and you get a barcode to scan at the gate on entry/exit.

Thanks. I am a full 5 hours from DFW so I'll just have to pay the AA-SJT tax. At least I'll be chipping away at AA Executive Platinum with these super high prices!

I just looked at flights to MSP from College Station and they were $1042. Similar situation, only American flies, 4-6 flights a day. 27min flight to DFW or a 3hr drive.
The regional jets are nice and convenient for many of us but wow are they expensive. My son was attending college at Liberty in Lynchburg, VA. So AA Eagle on both ends. Most expensive flights in America! Glad he transferred to Tech.

At that price I’d probably drive. Surely you have a friend in DFW that would let you leave your car at their house.
Many folks from our area do. 5 hours is a lot though especially on the way home. Our school and mission trips we always drive to DFW to save thousands for the group. You'd think they would figure it out that with just a bit cheaper prices they could add many flights per day due to increased demand.

When traveling personally especially with family or friends as a group, this is exactly my mentality. Additionally I get free parking in Houston and DFW so biting the bullet on the drive each way + the savings + the free parking normally makes it worth it. When traveling for work the extra time and inconvenience needs to really be worth it dollar wise, especially when TSA knows you by name at the regional airport.

Care to enlighten the rest of us on free parking at DFW and IAH?

Lots of loud booms and gunfights in the Middle East. Austin and San Antonio also offer it.

I stick with my license plates.
Can’t say I fault you. The irony is CLL doesn’t do it but their parking is only $10-12/day and an uber is $20-40 from my house

Another option: Might look into renting a car.

When I took my trip in 2025 to avoid the worries of leaving my vehicle for such a long time in the airport long term parking and the cost of airport long term parking fee for 41 days, I found it was cheaper to rent an SUV round trip. Rent it for the trip from Tennessee to Dulles turn it in then rent a similar SUV from Dulles to Tennessee.
