I’m against abortion. I believe all life is sacred.

That being said, this nuisance yellow fly (my fellow cattlemen will understand that reference) buzzing around and making a living on the politics thread could have spared many so much grief if his daddy had just done the humane thing and pulled out.

Your comment remind me of the movie pure country that George straight did in the nineties, there’s a quote in there I feel describes him well.

Yes, adopting a child in America is difficult. Now imagine 10 times as many children need to be adopted. I see you have all refused to answer my question about what would happen in the event abortion was illegal here. Especially since the republican party is against, and has tried to get rid of; food stamps, WIC, Section 8 housing, and Medicaid. Who will be providing for all these millions of children in need?
The basic truth your question overlooks is that abortion is the murder of an unborn human being. There is no challenge so great, or advantage so great, that it justifies the taking of an innocent life. Providing for millions of additional lives can be accomplished. We used to do it before abortion was legal.

Yes Indeed. Let the Democrats wallow in their America hating misery.

Trump was de-banked because banks didn't want to be associated with a domestic terrorist who tried to overthrow the federal government on January 6th, 2021. It actually is hilarious because the right has been screaming for decades about private businesses having the same rights as people, and being able to deny service to whomever they choose (remember the gay couple and the CO baker?) And now that those same beliefs are applied to you guys, you don't like it. Oh well, didn't @Tubby’s Canteen just say that turnabout is fair play?

Remind me again, where in the constitution does it say that you all have a "right to financial services"? Kinda like when you all complain about the court making up a "right to privacy".....no?
The banking industry is regulated closely by the Federal Government. Any industry or business closely regulated by the Feds or that operates under a federal permit, registration, license or on federal land is not allowed to discriminate and is required to be an equal opportunity employer and provider.

Trump and his companies being frozen out is actually against the law.

Who is supposed to provide and pay for all the services, medical care and other welfare benefits for the illegal immigrants and their children? It’s interesting how you’re not against those payments! Hmmm…

Splitting hairs on the drug use aren’t you ? Regardless of may or may not be legal in the future you engaged in the use of the substance will it was illegal so I ask again do you think it should be held against a child you sire?

And don’t try to feed us some b.s. about you not using your not Elliot Ness who waits to have a drink until after prohibition is repealed.
To answer your question, no, I don't think drug/alcohol abuse of a parent should be held against a child. Now answer my question about what is the plan (if any) regarding the significant assistance that would be required if abortion was illegal and 1million + more children are born, some of which would become wards of the state.

Where are you getting the 10x figure for number of of children up for adoption?

To your Q about What would happen if abortion were illegal? 1) The world would be a much better place. 2) people might actually take responsibility for their actions, which could be viewed a number of ways: a) use contraceptives or be less promiscuous, b) not rely on murdering fetuses to bail them out of a jam; learn they now have a responsibility to take care of, c) more families of husbands and wives in marriages at younger ages (not unlike it was before 1973), etc. And 3) I answer your question with a question - what happened before 1973, when abortions were essentially illegal/nonexistent?

I would contend the number of children needing adoption would not rise nearly as drastically as you seem to think it would, but that's something neither of us can actually prove as it's purely hypothetical.

The fact that your answer to unwanted pregnancy is to kill the unborn child is disturbing to say the least.
I mean let's try to think here for a min. If there's 1,126,000 abortions in the us per year, and it becomes illegal. Many, but not all of those will eventually be children. How many will become societies responsibility? Surely not 100%, probably not even 50%, but what about 20-30%? I guess probably somewhere in there. You could be looking at hundreds of thousands of children entering the system every year. Year after year. there's currently 331,000 children in the system right now, and it doesn't seem to be working all that well now. Even if we assume 1-2 million couples ready to adopt right now, that backlog disappears in only a few years. What happens then?

"1) The world would be a much better place..." I would hazard a guess that perhaps it would not be. Go read the book Freakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. Are they completely right, probably not, but maybe a little?

"what happened before 1973, when abortions were essentially illegal/nonexistent?..." They have existed since the founding of the country, and before then. The idea that somehow abortions were ever non-existent is completely untrue. Prior to the formation of the AMA in 1847 they were mostly legal. Especially pre-quickening.

Interesting how you care more for the unborn than you do for the children walking the earth right now. Hmmmm... . You'd have me believe that if only abortion was made illegal that then, and only then you would care for all the children? Why wait, why not start caring right now?

Happy 4th of July to my American friends!

BigEasy,
Calling you the NC Dumb Ass may have been inappropriate. I can excuse being dumb because it implies a condition that one is born with so is beyond their control. Blindly supporting abortion reflects a personal choice and philosophy I cannot suffer. Those with this bearing possess a rotted soul and no moral compass. Just stay as far away from me as possible and I will do the same. Sadly, it seems this illness infects and permeates large segments of our culture and much of our politics.

The US seems to be deficient in outdoor aircon:

The organizers of America ‘s National Independence Day Parade, scheduled for July 4, 2026, at 10:30 AM, have regretfully canceled the parade due to extreme heat in the Washington, DC, region.

The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning for the District of Columbia, with heat index values expected to reach between 110°F and 115°F.

This decision was made after extensive consultation with the National Park Service, the District of Columbia City Government, and Freedom 250, and careful consideration of the safety of our participants, spectators, and staff as the top priority.

That's the same question regarding migration of millions of indigent foreign born, of any person whether illegally entering or entering due to our miss guided immigration laws.

I strongly Disagree. Read the book in college, didn't care much for it, dont need to read it again.

So they were mostly illegal from 1847-1973? I believe that qualifies as "before 1973." And that would make them essentially non-existent for roughly 125 years. Which is exactly what I said.

And yet you typed the words "the idea that somehow abortions were ever non-existent is completely untrue" immediately before admitting it was true in your next sentence. Unbelievable

So again I ask, more pointed this time, what happened in those 125 years between 1847-1973? Was the US overrun with orphans or foster children? Was there some crisis about how to make people responsible for their actions (aka, raise the children you created)? Your logic is flawed.

I agree with the weaponized banking comment, but to say someone else is responsible for his criminal actions is an excuse. People, regardless of whether they hang in the hood or around Wall Street, have to be responsible for their own actions. He should not be allowed to trade stocks again. That’s what would happen to you or me or anyone else who manipulated the stock market.
Leaving out Pelosi and the rest of Congress, are we?

Kalthoff, I salute your country for its stand against the cultural incursion of Islam, and the hope it gives to other European countries to reverse said invasion. Honestly, I thought most hope was lost for EU future! You have shown what can be done in facing a very real threat to your culture.
I support your curtailing public benefits to asylum seekers, and protection not only of your culture but the finances available to fund the kind of system you want. You even stood up to the Haig.

Having said that, don't get snarky on our 250th Independence Day.

"anyone else who manipulated the stock market" lol
Oh I see. I took your comment to mean I somehow accept what everyone else did. No, I think in all its forms, and by all people, it should be prosecuted.

The tricky one is like our PM who has a well established financial interest in a company that will benefit from a lot of policy. Is it a conflict or was it just good decision making previously? We are allowed to make our own luck.
