A Great Remembrance Of Harry Selby

Agree that was a great remembrance. I think Sporting Classics is a terrific magazine with articles like that, articles on classic firearms and outdoor art.

I love that I started hunting Africa while the great Selby was still alive. With the bridge to Percival, his career takes one back to the earliest days of the "modern" African safari.

Ruark and Selby are probably the reason I favor the .416 Rigby.

That was a wonderful article. It gives a perspective on Harry Selby I hadn’t read before. Both Harry and Joe Coogan were fortunate to have lived and hunted in Africa when they did.

It was after reading Ruark and his his exploits with Selby that I HAD to get a .416 Rigby. I know there are other great calibers out there, but they made the .416 Rigby Romantic.

The article was a very graceful homage to an old mentor and friend.

That was a good read about a consummate professional.

Thanks for posting this. Great article.

I think that’s a common experience for many people - those classic writers really knew how to create a passion for certain rifles!

Actually, it was Jim Corbett’s .275 that really made me want to own a Rigby.

I’m thinking it was the caliber.416 and not the brand, at least for me as I would never be able to afford a Rigby built rifle.

You’d be happy to know that Harry once told me if he were starting out again the first thing he’d do is have a 416 built on a …BRNO ZKK action…. Harry was practical, too ;-)
