Belgian visiting Texas and Wisconsin

D-4 for the first stop in Houston.
The weather looks pleasant :

Get out of Houston and visit the natural world and the real TX (Hill Country, W TX, etc.) Take the Ferry over to Cameron LA and get some fresh seafood. Nora's tacos on 90. Take 77 N of La Grange to Giddings and sample the BBQ there!!!
 
Get out of the cities in WI and visit the bays, Nat Forest, the hilly farm country...don't forget to try the lutefisk! :p The weather will undoubtedly be more pleasant there...
 
*Sam Houston Nat Forest is very nice and the country E heading into LA. Easy trip w/ the aforementioned BBQ in Giddings. The seafood on the LA side of the lake (river) is really good!

Whats the name of the BBQ place in Giddings? I worked out of Giddings years ago,but there was no where memorable to eat there then!

I'll be flying over on Monday 1st of June to Houston, arriving in the early afternoon and will be there till Friday on business, close to Memorial Park. Finally, flying back to the EU capital on Monday evening the 8th of June.

I cannot yet say for 100% sure how the evening plans will go during my week in Houston (I suspect the teams there will be organizing some things for my entertainment as well), but if anyone is in the neighborhood and would enjoy sharing some hunting stories over a glass of beer, I would be very thrilled to meet some of my AH friends in real life in Houston. Especially the Monday evening of my arrival there and Thursday the 4th could be good candidates for a meetup.

Next to potentially meeting with each other, if anyone has any suggestions on things I absolutely should visit or do while in Houston, I'd be very interested to hear about your suggestions.

Also, as I plan on packing my bags full of US goodies when I travel back home, if some of you have suggestions on stuff I should purchase while there (or order beforehand in time so I can take it with me), don't hesitate. I've been thinking about reloading equipment (no brass or bullets though), archery equipment and some optics (Trijicon etc.)

Reach out to me in PM or here in the thread, maybe we can organize something fun while I'm there!

When you go to Wisconsin, you MUST get cheese curds, the white ones, not the yellow. You also need to have them deep fried. I was born and raised in Western WI. If you have the time, you also need to go out for a Friday night fish fry. So where that has Walleye (1st choice) or Perch (2nd choice). Where in Wisconsin are you going to be?

Ellsworth is the next town over. (the capital of world Cheese Curds). VertigoBE will not be lacking.

This evening I made a few gallons of the national champion BBQ sauce to get ready for the visit. (anyone that wants the recipe, it's very "St. Louis and KC". In addition, I made a half gallon of "Bama white" which means nothing to most Yankees but is essential for a good brisket or chicken.

We'll take good care of him while he's here.

If anyone is keeping track, Sam's club has prime brisket every day and at present, it's $0.10 a pound more than choice! Yes, prime brisket is the way!

Figured I’d save the BBQ for Wisconsin and spare @VertigoBE Mexican since I’m sure all his coworkers will want to do Mexican, BBQ, and Steaks for dinner and brought him to Gus’ World Famous Fried Chicken.

Great finally meeting you and talking hunting and guns. Hope you enjoy your time in the states and meeting other fellow AHers

What I love about AH is common ground. @Mtn_Infantry and @VertigoBE haven't met, but they hunt with the same PHs. Me too. My closest friend in Chicago that doesn't hunt visits @VertigoBE at EU based conferences.

My point is the world is very small. AH is even smaller.

I now return to Private Messages from an AH stranger that dated my neighbor's daughter in unincorporated nowhereville.
