We hunted S Africa in August, 2024 and our taxidermy finally cleared customs in Atlanta last week. A few buddies drove over to get our crates and we picked them up this morning. We used Amara Taxidermy near Thabazimbi for the finished taxidermy, Zingela Forwarders for crating and logistics and Coppersmith stateside. I’m pretty pleased with the finished products, given the difference in pricing vs what I have had done here. The packaging was efficient and well protected. A few things I see, but I don’t know that others would really notice. I tend to be picky anyway. The tips of my blesbok horns were broken off but I can probably repair that on my own. The hunt seems like so long ago, opening the crate brought back some great memories.
I know freight has been a heavily discussed topic here lately, so I will share that this crate was about $2,300 shipped air freight plus the regular Coppersmith fees. The crate was 125x89x104 cm and the volumetric weight was 193. This was my first experience with overseas taxidermy and I am happy overall with the experience. Amara was pleasant to work with and Zingela was extremely professional. Coppersmith also lived up to their reputation. What I appreciated from the start is that all 3 companies always answered emails in a timely manner.
