Scope ring options for Rigby Highland Stalker in 275 Rigby

It definitely is more involved than installing some other scope mounts but definitely doable.

I found the following information from EAW very helpful when I worked on my EAW ring mount.

1. EAW scope mount instruction (actual mounting instruction starts from page 37)
2. "Adhesive is recommended for reliability for decades to come. You can use a bit of Loctite on the screws, but not neccesary. Most important is the use of an adhesive at the front plate (position see instructions) and the bottom half of the front ring. Care and clean is king, work with acetone for cleaning or likewise."
   1. "In Europe we use UHU Endfest 300. In the US Scotchkote (3M) is highly recommended. Will remove without residue when a heat gun is applied."
   2. you can actually order UHU Endfest 300 from Amazon. I opted to use Scothkote (3M)
3. Torque specs:
   1. Base Screws: 1.5NM
   2. Ring Screws: 1.6NM
   3. Hinge Screws (Front foot): 4-5NM

Hope this helps someone who is looking into using EAW ring mounts.

I used scotchkote as well. Seems to be the right level of adhesion.

I’m resurrecting this one as seems like quite a few owners here.

Did you have problems with the eye relief afforded by your scopes with the Rigby’s 14.5 LOP?

I’m about ready to buy one and don’t need issues…

Not at all and I am very particular about eye relief and scope position.

I had that problem. I’m just over 6’ tall and the way I shoot, all Rigby stocks are too long. Mama is 5’ so it is difficult for her when we share a rifle. My solution for one of our trips was to mount a Leupold scope as it has a longer eye relief than a Z3. Later I had the stock trimmed a bit.

I just hate the thought of having the stock cut. It should arrive next week so we’ll see.
Gordy & Sons is the Rigby authorized repair for Rigby so I may send to them if I need the stock shortened. They said the longer LOP on those rifles is a common problem. I also talked to Mark at NECG and he said he could cut the stock if needed too. He’s got THE selection of EAW mounts so thought he might be able to mount the scope so it didn’t need to have stock work. Another option if it shortens the stock enough is to remove the recoil pad and have NECG checker the butt. It’s a 30-06 so no real need for a recoil pad… One way or another, I’m pretty excited to get my hands on it.

What .275 ammo are you planning on using ?

As there is more 7x57 ammo available in Germany than .275, I had a gunsmith extend the chamber (talking mills) so that the rifle will take various 7x57 manufacturers & not just Hornady. Had to be reproofed as it was an alteration but worth doing IMO for the extra flexibility.

As to the mounts, I had Rigby Ldn fit EAW mounts on & topped it with a Z6 scope.

It is a 30-06

EAW scope mounts are a little tricky to fit and they do sit up a little high. Great for large objective lenses. The mounts are also adjustable for wear and you can externally adjust them for windage. Elevation can be externally adjusted by swapping a part in the rear ring for a part with a different height. This is a useful feature if you’re using older reticle moving scopes.

Recknagel mounts are similar in function and sit a little lower than EAW’s.
