Will CBP approve a Form 4457 for a rifle if the serial number is not visible?

It is on the receiver, hidden by the stock.

Can I remove the action, to show them?

Anybody see this before?

Getting a 4457 won’t be a problem if you can show them the serial number. You don’t need to arrive with a stock. A 4457 is just proof of ownership (of any item not just firearms) before leaving the US. I’d be more concerned in Africa if the serial number isn’t easily visible.

My 470 Capstick built on a magnum Browning Safari Medallion grade has the serial number below the woodline. I removed the stock at CBP and had no issues. I will have a screw driver along in the gun case to remove the stock at SAP for their viewing. I expect no issues

I’d just buy an inexpensive punch and punch the serial number on the receiver.

Have someone nicely engrave your ser# on the trigger guard boy. Easy to find and read plus it looks classy.

Depends on the value of the firearm.
Since you ask, it is one of The Finest Rifles available at the time, "actually made far better than is necessary” and “made with infinite care by our most expert old craftsmen.”

It's a Herter's J9, a Yugoslavian-made mauser bolt action.

I bought a stamp set. :)

You could probably have an engraver put it on the trigger guard.

But being a removeable part you might get that ONE customs agent that really enjoys their job....
You mean the ones who still live at home in their mom’s basement? lol

I would not stamp it on myself.

I have a stamp set and practiced with it quite a bit but I could never get the spacing or alignment of the numbers and letters to look right.

If anything I'd talk to a engraver and see what they can do for you instead of it looking like a hack job.

Find a local Laser engraver with a fiber laser, it will look really nice and it will be cheap

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.
