Fly with a High End Rifle to J'Burg?

I am a big proponent to bringing my own rifle. It's what I practice with and I find it improves my success. If you prepare, it's really not a hassle.

I have done it many times. If I was unwilling to take a rifle I would see no point in owning it.

On my last hunt I considered renting a rifle from the outfitter. Then I figured that by the time that I rented it and purchased the ammo I might as well just bring my own along and hire Henry to take care of the permits.

It's always better looking at your trophy and knowing that you shot it with your own rifle with ammo that you loaded yourself. Even if you don't load your own it is still satisfying.

The only time that I might consider not bringing my own rifle would be if I was going to do a extended tour where I was flying out of a airport a ways away from where I would be storing my rifles while I was on the tour. We did a tour on my first hunt and one of the PH's took care of the rifles, it was fine since he was in Port Elizabeth and that was where we were flying out of to go home.

Funny I only flew through Doha once and don’t even remember the busses. But I very much enjoyed the lounge and private sleeping room.

Sorry to derail everyone, but is @Luminous Ham anyone else's new favorite handle? And yes, I'd rather take my own rifle and roll the dice.
Hmm, seems my English is insufficient to understand what asking if a handle is anyone else's favorite handle means? Is it because there a many/more luminous ham handles out there, or? Is irony involved? Sorry, I'm lost:unsure:

I can see absolutely zero reason to fly into or through JNB unless with a high end rifle. I do not adore JNB, but if wanting to take one of my (mid-level-ish, mediocre) rifles for a stroll through the bushveld, sometimes I sadly have to wander through JNB. I have not flown with a $250k rifle, sadly do not own one, but if I did, I would absolutely want to hunt the rifling out of it, so it would go too.

While not to some standards of high-end, I have flown with Rigbys and Heyms several times now, taking a Heym double for a stroll tomorrow actually, and as I knock on wood...haven't had a problem yet, other than losing my Rigby BGR 416 for about a week after my connection in Frankfurt was cancelled, and somehow I ended up routing one way and my roller on another, and my rifle on a third. Strangest thing, as the airlines always seem to make a solid effort to keep firearms with owners/passengers. The firearms on flights always seem to take a different path than general baggage. They are loaded and offloaded separately from what I can tell, and the airlines definitely seem to try and keep close tabs on who/what/where with them.
As I understand it from somebody in the aviation industry firearms travel in the front hold along with crew baggage. Thus they are separate from general checked luggage.
This at least is the excuse I was given when my shotgun was not offloaded in Copenhagen some years ago. . The plane left on its return flight. I was kicking up 7 shades of shite. Eventually when I arrived at my final destination in Jutland an airline representative rang to tell me that my shotgun was back in Dublin. Fat lot of good that was to me.

Would be something about shiny pork.

Handle is what English speakers call your nickname.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
