I still like a fast expansion bullet. If you can get them I would go with a Swift A Frame as my number 1 choice followed by Partitions. The good old Core Lok is also a good choice. I took mine with a Barnes TSX but on hind site I would have chosen the above. I would not use the Barnes if I took a second one. Just me
I’ve only shot 1 lion and it was with a 400 grain Bearclaw in my .416 Hoffman. If I shoot another lion in the future it’ll be with my .375 H&H and a 300 grain Bearclaw or North Fork Percussion Point.
anything soft, for fast expansion, they thin skinned and u want as big of an energy dump into the animal as possible. penetration not an issue for lions
It depends.
Do you want a knockout and a bigger hole in the skin, or a smaller exit with the possibility of the animal leaving the place of the shot (it can run in all directions)
I have no interest in lion hunting, but until about 20 years ago I regularly supplied French hunters with LION LOAD soft point bullets from A-Square in various caliber. They were all very impressed with their working on lions. Back then, this bullets were still relatively easy to find in Germany, but that is over now.
I used a 286gr aframe, it was a bit to tough and had very little expansion. in my 9.3 the Nosler accubond or partition would have been a better choice.
416 is a lot of gun for a cat.
Whichever of these shoots best in your rifle.
1: Nosler Partition
2: Sierra Gameking / Pro Hunter
3: Remington Core-Lokt
what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
