For those prepared and bold members. This current period of unrest may prove to be a good time to take advantage of cancellations or unfilled quota.

Ebola outbreak was one. Covid was another time to get deals. Getting will be more difficult and expensive.

I already added on a buffalo to my hunt for a canceled/unfilled tag for May. Accepted it last week after not being able to get one for Nuanetsi.
 
Good luck Philip. Rather than the usual build up to a hunt, this one is an instant rush of excitement!
I’m looking forward to reading the progression of this hunt. Hope you get a nice bull.
 
It does seem there are a lot of DG safari cancellations right now. I keep seeing more and more and some 2026 quota not sold by some good outfits.
I am just a little over a week out from wheels up for Zim! I'm packed and ready.
 
That is awesome that you can do this on such short notice, good luck, and I thought I was making a quick decision by picking up a new mountain bike because it was a good deal, I usually tend to over research things and end up with that deer in the headlights look. Looking forward to your hunt report.

I agree.

I wonder if economy or uncertainty is playing into it. Because flying not through ME shouldn't be that big an issue.

I'm thinking about a spring 2027 elephant hunt. But also wondering if I should hold off and see about cancelations for this year

I have not seen any great deals though due to cancellation versus their regular price your being an exception to that. My bet is come June you will see some real deals for back half 26

I personally love last minute trips. Last October with Dalton & York was perfect as I was trying to put together an elephant hunt that fell apart after a couple weeks of correspondence. Dalton hooked me up and we nailed down arrival date that was not even 3-weeks from us saying it’s a plan. Plenty of time to make ready, luckily last minute airfare wasn’t bad, and left enough time to revel in the excitement, but not bathe in it for months.

Excited for you and to see photos and trip report for sure. I head out to Omay again basically week after you and will be there 10-15 days, all depending. Excited to have a good tracking hunt for my first bull, but know the area produces smaller ivory which is fine by me for this hunt. Priced right enough and since I don’t think I’ll prove one and done on elephant, figured acceptable to start small. If time allows I have buffalo and tuskless quota in my back pocket to ward off boredom. The bull elephant was also a cancellation hunt that freed up the quota and I was already on D&Y’s books for next October for different area, this proved a perfect trip to bridge over I guess…and excited to see the same landscape just through the opposite lens of seasons.

I flew into Omay North mid-October, drove out on the 30th. Super dry. Will be cool to see it all green.

I am a planner and have most of my hunts scheduled years in advance. I have safaris, group safaris, Ibex hunts, sheep hunts, all with dates set years in advance. Being a safari veteran I've always wished for a last minute deal where I just threw my stuff in my bag, grabbed my rifles and went! Well luck came my way last week! It started with a FB message from a videographer about a trophy elephant hunt in Zimbabwe. After a phone call on Monday March 9th to find out who the hunt was with and more info next thing I know I am on a call with Richie Schultz! He had a half price deal on a trophy bull hunt in Matetsi and I took it. The hunt had to be taken in April and my calendar for the first time ever had a gap there. I said I was in and Richie was happy to have me and even remembered speaking to me a few years ago when I asked a few PH's at SCI their opinions before buying my double. A good PH has a great memory in my experience!
Tuesday March 10th. I sent my dates to Patrick Wright at PWP Travel along with all of my rifle paperwork etc which was handy due to my upcoming August safari. I was lucky to have him find Delta Premium Select bulkhead seats for not too high of a price. Meanwhile I got my letter of invitation from Richie and PWP booked my Airlink to Victoria Falls and City Lodge at JNB and what do you know I was fully booked in 24 hours! Wheels up April 15th.
I normally wait until after the safari to post but I thought I'd take y'all along on the journey since this is such an unusual situation for me.
