This year (In 23 days!) I'm taking a Sako AV 375 HH and a Husky 6.5x55 for my first Buff and opportunistic PG. The Husky shoots lights out and was $500. I think I'm more excited to be taking it than the 375!
Man after my own heart .....never spent money on PG rifles

My PG rifle is a .375 H&H and that is accompanied by a .458 Lott. Both rifles are custom Mauser actioned pieces made by TT Proctor. He made many safari rifles in the 80s to early 2000s that were truly lovely and definitely fit for purpose. Scopes are a Zeiss Diavari 1.5-6x42 on the .375 and a Swarovski Z6 1-6 EE on the Lott

I usually take a 300 win mag for PG and either 375 or 416 for DG. I've never regretted that combo.

Yeah when I was on the other side of the table I used 300 win mag and 416 rigby.....the 375 obviously was never even a thought... ;)...back in the old rigby days when Paul owned it and I used to be there a lot ...Paul agreed those 2 were probably the best 2 calibres...also used to take a 9422m in 22 mag which he also agreed with :D Beers:

I cheat a bit... my 2 rifle/3 caliber, anything anywhere, battery.
Top is a Sauer 404 with barrels in 375 H&H and 300 Win mag. Scopes are in QD mounts. 2-16 GPO for the 300 and a 2-12 & 1-5 Leupold for the 375.
Bottom is a Krieghoff in 450/400 3" for up close and personal engagements. ☺

Awesome combo!

Was 20days in Uganda in February, took 3 guns: Heym 450-400 (400gr A-frames), 375 H&H Dakota
(300gr A-frames) and a custom 300WBY (200gr A-frames), a 7# rifle with 2.5-15 Leica I built 30+ years ago to Sheep and elk hunt, that has been on 6 continents. Literally only shot 1 round thru the 375 for sight in. 300 shot a really nice Sitatunga and 2 Hugh impala. My Heym shot 2 Grant Zebras and 3 wonderful old Dagga Boys.
Headed to Tanzania Selous for Buffalo in Sept. Anticipate taking the Heym 450-400 and a new
450 3 1/4' Heym if it gets here in time. otherwise, a 470 or a 400 H&H I've been working up.
If I need something smaller I can borrow my PH's 300WM.

BUT…one of these days I want to take this custom Mauser G33/40 in 280 Ackley built by Bill Dowtin. I bought it with intents of using it for plainsgame, but I just don’t target plainsgame enough to need a dedicated rifle and have a hard time leaving my Rigby at home.
@Wildwillalaska
Seeing as you don't use it enough to target plains game I have a brilliant idea.
Send it over to me and I will give it a workout in Australian game and let you know how it goes.
Testing may take a while but I will return it, promise.

I’m sure there would be lots of volunteers for a project like this. ‍

My 2 gun battery calibers for buff and medium PG on my 3rd safari was 375 H&H and 30-06.

My next trip I'll be taking my 458WM and 340 Weatherby and rent a smaller caliber rifle for the small night critters.

My rifles don't run on batteries
@csmcclain
Some used to.
The Remington electric fire took a 9 volt battery in the stock with special ammo that fired electronically.
So sorry to burst your bubble.
Bob

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
