It's almost time for bears to be climbing out of dens and looking for greenery to start their stomachs after a long sleep. Who is going and where?

I'm going for the 3rd year in a row to Saskatchewan with a great outfitter Sprit Creek Outfitters. I've written about them the last 2 years. I'm taking a friend who didn't get his bear last year and we will also be in camp with AH member Art and his son. Looking forward to that! I really enjoy bear hunting, especially if you get to see a lot of bear activity during the rut.

I’ve done two spring bear hunts in New Brunswick. Trying the fall season this year combined with a moose hunt.

I hope you have another good hunt to Saskatchewan.

Thanks. I would like to try another province in the future…BC and Alberta for sure.

I’ll hunt them around home in North Idaho but also heading back to Manitoba for the second year. The bears up there make our local boars seem tiny!
Manitoba bears make a lot of bears seem tiny, but the ones you guys have out west definitely are smaller than our back east.
Except we don’t get the color phase which I would prefer!

Manitoba, for the 8th year in a row, 8 hunters and usually 100., We are becoming more selective in what we shoot, I'm waiting for a chocolate color bear myself. None of us have taken a blonde bear, but I did have a good shot at one but she was to small for me. Our biggest bear so far 516 pounds, several in the 400"s, and the same with 300 plus pounders. Best week seeing bears for me 63, with 17 for a single sit. Good luck to all.

Is there a discernible difference between Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba black bear? Size, color phase, etc.

This from our trailcam when we lived in northwest Montana. This big boy came into our apple orchard at night to fill up! I don’t know his weight but he wasn’t small!

I hope everyone writes a hunt report. We need more bear reports here.

I will be spoiled again this spring. Living in the heart of great bear country. Vancouver Island. Was just shown a pic of a real big boar at a buddy's cabin, so some are already out real early this year.

My newly built off rd hunting trailer, camp on wheels will replace the wall tent for the first time as I camp out for 10 days in May, riding quad and looking for a big fat blackie in the logging slash and greened up trails.

Then I will take boat over to mainland side for a week, anchor/camp at "the beach" and watch for a color phase black to show. Plus eat prawns, mussels and seafood the ocean gives me.

Great to be spoiled in BC with 2 OTC tags a year..

Sure wish Grizzly was open again. Stupid Gov ruined my favourite hunt.

I'll be heading somewhere to Northern Ontario for a spring bear again this year. Lots of options and reasonable prices within a 5 hour drive or so.

Haha, you aren’t kidding man! You guys have some tanks over there! Funnily enough I used my Henry 45-70 in Alberta last year, I know it’s overkill but the size is great when you’re in a tree stand.

I don't see the 45-70 as overkill for baited bears. You hope to get an exit so the bear will expire quickly. So many bears do not get an exit and there is little left to trail them on. I've seen far too many bears lost due to that. Every time I go to bear camp there is at least 1 or 2 lost that week...sometimes more. That's too many.

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
