Cost of a new wood stock

Thank you for all the help. It may be a bad decision but I might just start with an economical eBay stock and see what I can do with it myself, including installing pillars and bedding the stock and perhaps install cross bolts. If things go bad I am out of a few hundred dollars but reacher with a lesson.
Why not? Got little to lose and a lot to learn. Enjoy the exploration.

Incidentally, the stock in my above post is the second one. I picked up the first stock from another online auction site semi-finished for $125. I made the fore end tip from zebrawood due to COVID lack of supplies. No rosewood or ebony available. That stock came with one crossbolt and I added a second internal one behind the magazine. I used Winchester crossbolts for the second stock. They are round vs conventional Mauser square shaft which makes easier to install. Also they can be tightened with Allen wrench instead of goofy two-pronged Mauser style wrench. They are decorative too. I prefer not to cover my crossbolts with plugs. From time to time they may need tightening as stock swells and shrinks due to humidity changes.

Well, a disappointing update. Apparently the cheap stock I picked up from eBay will not fit the rifle per my gunsmith, so back to the drawing board. I think it is time to reach out to some of the companied that were listed above...
What seems to be the problem? The second stock I bought off an auction site wouldn't allow the bottom metal to pull together tight with the receiver in the stock. Apparently this stock had a thinner wrist. I trimmed off some of the top of the rear action screw and a tiny bit from sides of mag box and it pulled together fine. I also had to reshape the Timney trigger shoe so it would clear the trigger guard. Actually, it now very nicely cradles my trigger finger. I'm thinking this may have been a commercial Mauser stock and slightly different than military.

Thank you for all the advice. Unfortunately the Australian stockist sites do not work for me as I am residing in the US. The stock I got from eBay was a no go because the barrel channel was already too wide, so I cold not fix that.
I am not shy to put in some sweat equity but unfortunately, I have a young family thus I do not have much free time (this wold not be a problem if I had a lot of money, but that is not the case either ;-). I reached out to the Microfit stocks but they are several months out, though this might be the case with most other manufacturers as well. We shall see. I am trying to follow multiple leads...

@Tintin
Some of Roger Vardys stock blanks are stratospheric in price especially his exhibition grade.
Bob
Hey Bob - I reckon some of his more fancy blanks are actually pretty good value.

Obviously the real cost is in the craftsmanship of turning a blank into a stock.

I hear you on the need for patience!

He's a real character and it mind boggling to see the range of blanks he has.

Pity about Aunty's tree ;-(

Thank you! that sounds about right based on what I am hearing...

Well, after a feeble attempt of trying to sell the rifle and receiving limited interest, it appears fate wants me to keep her and bring her back to her original beuty. So, she has just been pulled off the market, and being sent to accurate innovations to have a new stock fitted as I write this..
Thank you for all the interest regardless.

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.
