Favorite movies set in Africa

Trophy (2017) - Movie Documentary, 7.4/10 on IMDB.

 
So many good movies mentioned, but I wanted to add:

The Flame Trees of Thika
1981 mini series with Hayley Mills
Story is set in and around the town of Thika in Kenya's Central Province. The story deals with the lives of British settlers in this part of East Africa in 1913, when the country was a British colony, up to the start of World War One.

I didn't think Zulu qualified as it didn't have a hunting theme, but it was the first movie that came to my mind as well.

I mentioned Zulu to a couple of South African PH's that I met st a sports man's show in January. Neither one had ever even heard of it. I am guessing that the current government takes a fim.view of it.
 
Does anyone remember an African movie I watched with my dad when I was a kid?

It was filmed I think in the 1950s or 60s. The one scene I remember well: Two white hunters are lost and come across a tribe a natives and when the group of natives approach one attacks one one of the white hunter and he shoots the attacking native and then the native's are shocked by the power of his rifle. The one white hunter then says to the other “that was my last round… the other one says… they don’t know that…”

I think one had an 1895 Winchester and I believe it was in black and white but it could have been in early color.

Ghost in the Darkness can be watched on youtube for free now with ads but if you use an ad blocker you don't get the ads either.

Doesn’t Lt. Bromhead shoot a leopard at the beginning of the film? There’s the hunting theme, obviously secondary to the major theme of the film though…that being said, I’m gonna leave Zulu in my Africa movie list.

Yeah, I forgot he killed a cheetah in the beginning of the film. I guess that counts. So my three favorites are , "Zulu", "Hatari",, and "The Ghost and the Darkness."

Zulu is a fantastic movie. Frank Bourne, the Color Sgt. Was the last survivor of that battle and fought in both world wars and passed away at the age of 90. Truly a badass.
 
I watched Clint Eastwoods "White Hunter - Black Heart" last night on You Tube. Somehow I had never heard of this movie before yesterday. I have pretty mixed feelings about it. Certainly not my favorite Eastwood film. But, there was commentary about shooting or not shooting elephants that resonated with a recent thread here on AH. It's probably worth checking out if you have not seen it. On regular You Tube for free.

new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
