Problem with most of them is they don’t get shot enough

Usually, no. Now & then, a few have their firing pins & magazine springs break. Or have inferior bedding.

But still, excellent value for the money and a trip to a competent gunsmith can make the rifles flawless.

Problems? The Magazine spring may need replaced in a relatively short time. Do yourself a favor and swap it for a surplus M98 Mauser spring and you won't have that problem. If you had mentioned this at the @Tally-Ho HUNTING SAFARIS open house last Sunday, I would have handed you one. I keep them on hand for friends, "for just such an emergency", like Foghorn Leghorn,

Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with these M70's but I'd float the barrel and bed the action properly in Devcon, MarineTex or similar compound. Oh, check the tension on the crossbolts also.

I think we watched the same cartoons when we were young Mark Very generous of you with the mag spring. I would have asked but I did not have the rifle at that time. I see them on Brownells web site I will pick one up. I think before I bed the rifle I will see how it shoots. I still need to work up some hand loads for it.

Thanks to everyone for your advice.

Make sure you buy military surplus springs.
I bought and tried a Brownells Extra Power spring spring for $35 and it was not noticably better than a surplus spring.

$6 each M98 surplus mag spring from SARCO https://www.sarcoinc.com/m98-mauser-follower-spring/

I have a feeling SARCO's order site is gonna light up today with this info. I am ordering mine this morning. Thanks Mark. Another very helpful tip.
Mitch, you will love this rifle. I have a couple in 375 and they both shoot well and function very well.

My safety was rough in the beginning but it has loosened up. The fit of the magazine floor isn't great but works fine. Mine shoots almost everything sub moa so no complaints on accuracy or feeding.

I have a 416 and 458 no complaints with either, I know every on here raves about the cz550 but in my mind the m70 is miles ahead. my cz550 wouldn't feed even after a trip to matrix gun smith. never and issue with the m70s

I picked up a new Portuguese 375 H&H last month. I like it just as much as, if not better than my New Haven CRF 300 WSM. I’m 100% satisfied with mine. The precision and close tolerances are amazing.

@mitch4570 I have the same 416 setup except I went with the DNZ Game Reaper 1-piece mount. Yours has awesome straight grain from tip to butt- congrats. So far, I've only handled and dry fired as I had to temporarily halt my load ladder for other priorities. I can say that it comes up to the shoulder and eye more easily and naturally than everything else I own. My safety was a little sketchy at first, but a bolt teardown, clean, reassemble and work the safety several times has it it good shape. For the money, it's hard to beat. I put a Blue Force Gear Hunter sling on it. Enjoy!

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
