What is your dream hunt in Africa..?

My dream safari would be 30-45 days across Tanzania, hunting the Selous, Masailand and western Tanzania all on one long hunt. All the dangerous game we could hunt including 10-12 buffalo. But, that’s the ‘Dream’ hunt. Reality is I’ll end up doing separate hunts in the Selous & Masailand in different years that total 25-30 days between the two safaris.

Difficult question to answer. There are plenty of African hunts/adventures that would be a true dream to get to experience. I simply cannot narrow it down.

Tanzania - Eastern and Western White Bearded Wildebeest
Mozambique - Niassa Wildebeest
Zambia - Cookson Wildebeest
Angola - Angola Wildebeest (perhaps I can help settle this argument personally)

The true adventure is not just the animals that will take me to these places but the land and its peoples. Any of these hunts/adventures would be truly a treat and honor to get to experience.

Every hunt in Africa is my dream hunt. Until I get home, then the dream starts over, next hunt in Africa is the dream one. Just not had enough dream, do repeats yet. Live in the moment.

Not sure my back will allow me to do a real hard dream hunt, walking for another ele, mnt in Ethiopia, or full bag in Tanzania ranks high as for dream hunts.

#1 is a free-range Cape Buffalo hunt in either Zim, Tanzania, etc.
#2 is CAR or Cameroon for jungle/forest species like Bongo, Dwarf Buffalo, etc.
#3 is a free-range hippo and elephant

#1 and #3 could be combined but I haven't figured out a way to acquire an oil company and/or investment bank to cover costs...yet

A very large elephant !

Sharing my African hunts with my hound.
A limitless budget with plenty of time ahead. Then I can go everywhere where my dreams are pushing me and probably I can expect a full bag each time.

A month long full bag safari in someplace comfortable, with good game populations. With quota for everything I would want.

Not sure if I'd want that to be Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, or Botswana. Or one of the more exotic places like Uganda, Cameroon, or Ethiopia.

My own more affordable aspirations that I will more than likely complete are multiple more plains game safaris in Namibia. Some of the more exotic species of South Africa over multiple safaris, and a few ranch safaris.

My first African dream hunt will be a 21 day in September 2027.
Start in Zimbabwe Elephant Hippo Crocodile Bushbuck then over to Kalahari for male Lion
then to Northern Cape for Buffalo Sable Kudu Eland Gemsbok Bushbuck Nyaia.
I will only take one rifle Winchester 458 for all game solid for elephant,TSX for buffalo
520 gr lead for hippo and 350 gr lead for all the rest.
Counting the days until I set foot on African ground for the first time and hopefully many more times to come before I have to hang up the big gun .

That’s a heck of a first safari, congrats!!!

That’s a heck of a first safari, congrats!!!
Thank you

Africa is a bigger and better place to hunt compared to Alaska and the Rocky's in the lower 48
today.
I would like to thank all the company's who came to my home and gave their quote's
for this hunt .
They are on this forum they really went far beyond to help make this up coming hunt happen .
This is the very best place for a new African hunter to gather information and I thank all of you who have answered my many questions about Africa hunting .
May be some day I will hunt Marko Polo . I turner down a Marko hunt just before the big health scare it just wasn't the right time to be in that part of the world.
To all keep on working for your dream hunt it can happen if you set your mind to achieve the dream .
I think the next African trip after this one will be for the tiny ten with a 22 hornet.

My sites are set a little lower than most. A return to Africa where I can harvest a Cape Buffalo, a sable, and a gemsbok. It’s the hunt I will take in 2028. I know Buffalo is the only Big 5 this retired Army guy can afford.

I'll throw in a big statement. If you can afford buffalo you can afford 4 of the big 5 except rhino if you do your research.

I’m not picky at all… for me it’s more about being thousands of miles away from the desk… red dirt on the boots.. enjoying the flora and fauna.. nights around the fire.. early mornings with Nescafé and a rusk, etc etc… I sincerely get as excited over a blue wildebeest cull as I do a Cape buffalo hunt (strange, I know).. the hunt is for me one part of the larger experience..

I chased a fairly nice impala last September for about 800 yards… we worked super hard to get the wind in our face, sun to our backs, etc and to close the gap from about 400 yards where we first saw him to a reasonable shooting distance..

After almost 30 minutes we finally were in just about the perfect position.. right as the sticks were coming up a monster Rowland Ward blesbok stepped out of the bush not even 75 yards away and presented a hard quartering away shot… my impala hunt immediately became a blesbok hunt…

And was probably the best hunt I’ve had in the last 3 years…

We worked super hard to be absolutely quiet.. the stalk was about as perfect as could be imagined.. the terrain in this area was particularly beautiful.. the go-away birds and vervets did their absolute best to try to bust us, the animal taken was truly world class, etc etc..

It was an incredible experience… and was just a common blesbok hunt…
Picture??

I’ve been blessed to complete my dream hunt for a lion with a good mane in Tanzania. For me, taking and walking up on such a magnificent creature was the pinnacle of my hunting career and an unbelievable feeling. For the life of me, I cannot understand how some people on this site don’t want to hunt a wild lion but to each his own. Some people get obsessed with hunting elephants but for me, I think I could hunt a lion every year. Lions are nocturnal and much more evasive than elephant. Taking a black mane lion in Zambia near Kafue NP would be awesome but I don’t think I will ever do it. Starting at $200k plus trophy fees is just too much.

Once I finish the spiral-horned antelope slam in 2028, my other dreams are likely never going to happen. These include hunting in China for several species of sheep including Marco Polo sheep (I saw some 60”+ giants while glassing into China from Tajikistan), Sair argali, Karaganda argali, Tian Shan argali, Severtozov argali, Tibetan argali, etc…. I sure wish China would reopen hunting. Need to talk to Trump Jr about this.

I am tempted to try again for yellow-backed duiker in CAR now that Ganam Safaris and African Parks are reopening the Chinko River area in CAR for bongo and other game but since being attacked there nearly 10 years ago, I don’t think I would ever test my luck again.

I would love to hunt a giant Shiras moose in Colorado but will probably never draw. I have a free moose hunt coming up in Alaska so that will have to do.

Well since there wasn't a time frame. the first would be a

1. mastodon and saber tooth cat. (577NE double)

2. to be a hunting member of Teddy Roosevelt's safari or same with Bell or Corbet. (500NE double and 7x57 bolt gun)

3. Based on reality a 30-45 day full bag hunt in Tanzania. (500/416 Double and 9.3x62 bolt gun)

If that is the case I want to go back to the Dutch East Indies. Hunting tiger, elephant, buffalo and rhino with my countrymen. Probably around 1910ish

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
