Mine is hunting a big tusker with a .600 double rifle. Have had this dream for 40+ years.. Life move in mysterious ways

My dream hunt is basically whatever the next hunt is. I have tried to do all the things that were most important to me in the moment when they seemed most important and as soon as reasonable/feasible.

But that's the great thing about hunting. As soon as I have done a hunt that I have looked forward to for years, I come up with another one to look forward to.

If I die tomorrow, I will do so knowing I did as much as I could with the time I had. If I live to be 100, I will still come up with another dream hunt I would like to do the next year.

Elephant, Elephant, Elephant!

Right now it’s probably buffalo in the Caprivi. I’ve always wanted to hunt the Caprivi strip since I was a kid and first read about it in outdoor life. I’d also reallly like to chase an exportable Bull Elephant. Neither one of those hunts is on the table right for the next 7-10 years. The wife says no dangerous game hunting till the kids are out of the house. Apparently that’s too high risk.

I’m not picky at all… for me it’s more about being thousands of miles away from the desk… red dirt on the boots.. enjoying the flora and fauna.. nights around the fire.. early mornings with Nescafé and a rusk, etc etc… I sincerely get as excited over a blue wildebeest cull as I do a Cape buffalo hunt (strange, I know).. the hunt is for me one part of the larger experience..

I chased a fairly nice impala last September for about 800 yards… we worked super hard to get the wind in our face, sun to our backs, etc and to close the gap from about 400 yards where we first saw him to a reasonable shooting distance..

After almost 30 minutes we finally were in just about the perfect position.. right as the sticks were coming up a monster Rowland Ward blesbok stepped out of the bush not even 75 yards away and presented a hard quartering away shot… my impala hunt immediately became a blesbok hunt…

And was probably the best hunt I’ve had in the last 3 years…

We worked super hard to be absolutely quiet.. the stalk was about as perfect as could be imagined.. the terrain in this area was particularly beautiful.. the go-away birds and vervets did their absolute best to try to bust us, the animal taken was truly world class, etc etc..

It was an incredible experience… and was just a common blesbok hunt…

Black Rhino, hands down !
Followed by forest elephant.
Followed by dwarf forest buffalo.

These are the only three species of African dangerous game which I’ve never hunted even once.

And then, I want to get my hands on a Heym Model 89B Jumbo .600 Nitro Express boxlock ejector and to re-do the Big Five all over again with said .600.

I’m with you on this one.

I go with the attitude of: “make every hunt the dream hunt.”. If my hunting career ends tomorrow, I’ll not feel ripped off.

I would love any of the following:

- Jungle hunt for Bongo & Forest Elephant
- LDE, Roan, Savanna Buffalo Hunt
- Leopard over hounds in Mozambique
- Big Botswana elephant hunt in the Okavango

Probably only a dream, but it’s a good dream.

A Classic elephant hunt .....tracking and walking miles every day for an ancient broken-tusked bull .......

Oh yes!

There are two, a tracking hunt for wild lion in the Kalahari, a proper tracking hunt for LDE in the savanna.

Full Bag 30-day Safari in Tanzania or Sitatunga/Bongo/Forrest Buffalo hunt in the Congo (not sure if the buffalo is possible). After reading the "Bongo in the Congo" by one of our esteemed members this hunt became very attractive to me, unfortunately I fear the Congo will never be safe enough for me to make this trip.

Big 5, DG 7, plus PG of opportunity along the way. In wild areas as much as possible.

Being on a proper Tusker elephant hunt with no budget and extra tags or permits available and no time limit.

How about hunting elephant's at least one in each of CMS concessions in one long Safari and picking up other animals as we go.

I've been able to do more than I ever expected and I'm grateful for that. So many special hunts in Africa and while some of those are obviously for DG but surprisingly some of those have been T10. Those little guys are special! I hope to finish that quest in the next 2-3 years...only 4 more to go. For now, the dream hunt is a tracking hunt for LDE or bongo. Their environments are quite different but the mindset is similar...never quit, never give up!

Mine would be leopard except I get to keep it this time! Mine was stolen by USFWS as my import permit date expired prior to arrival in San Francisco even though I had a valid CITES permit.

Each African hunting trip has been a dream come true for me. I like the attitude of a group of Australian hunters, some in their 80’s who hunt buffalo every year in Africa. They know that each trip could be their last one. Each trip is a dream come true.

Still, if a were to choose some dream hunts they would be:

Cameroon dwarf forest buffalo and giant forest hog
or
Cameroon North western buffalo and roan

These two are potentially doable which is why I deliberately left off LDE and bongo, but could add them to my dream hunt!

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark
