Gee pilar, after seeing the aoudad in your avatar I should have asked for your recommendation for them.

@AustinL Austin has some family land up that way. He might know someone.

A friend of mine owns and operates Final Descent outfitters out of Lubbock. They are primarily a goose/crane outfitters but they do offer limited mule deer hunts in the Sandhills west of Lubbock. Plenty of mule deer up further north in the panhandle as well or out in south west tx. Budget, hunt style and expectations may dictate what hunts are the best fit for you

I can also recommend Ocotillo Hunt Club out in far west TX

Fair questions AustinL...thanks for asking.

I am looking for a quality hunt and I am willing to pay for it. I want a really good deer rather than one that is "representative". Walking is not a problem so would prefer stalking rather than sitting in a blind all day but will do whatever is needed for a good deer. Good food is necessary but doesn't have to be fancy. Alcohol is not important. The accommodations on the Ocotillo Hunt Cub website would certainly meet my expectations, or I can stay at a Hampton Inn in town. It mostly needs to be clean.

My expectations for the guide/PH is the same as anywhere I hunt or fish. That they find what I am hunting for while not irritating the shit out of me.

Based on your reply I would definitely reach out to the guys at Ocotillio

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of a good guide/lodge for mule deer in Texas? As I understand it, they are in the panhandle.
@gizmo great lodge. Great people We saw lots of mule deer when I was their in February

Just to close the loop on this I plan to hunt with Western Range Outfitters/Plaska Lodge in 2027. https://plaskalodge.com/. I am on the cancelation list for this year. I emailed Camden three times and he responded within 30 minutes each time.

@gizmo
We saw lots of Mike’s when I was there

I hunted on Elephant Mountain GMA, I would consider areas near there. Saw plenty of deer before it got really pouring down rain. This was in 2018 or 2019.

I hunted Baracho Peak ranch in 2020 for Aoudad, it's 100,000 acres or so they claim. Saw plenty of deer. I think it is near Fort Stockton, I can't remember the name of the town. Rowdy McBride outfits the ranch on the Southside of the Baracho, there are free ranging red sheep, Armenian mouflon, aoudad, javelina, elk and mule deer there.

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
