I just got home from a 10 day non-trophy buffalo hunt in Zimbabwe with @DAVE LANGERMAN Safaris, the hunt was in the BVC out of Fimbiri camp.

I chose to use my Blaser R8 in 500 Jeffery for the hunt, firing handloaded 535 grain Woodleigh RNSN bullets at right on 2300fps. Rifle is topped with a Leupold VX3-HD 1.5-5 scope. I also took my Highland Stalker in 9.3 as a back up rifle and for warthog but with the thick bush we didn't end up with a warthog unfortunately.

The first bull came on the afternoon of day 3, after seeing the bull on a small waterhole we got into position on the shooting sticks and the bull walked out right in front of us on the road, one shot at around 50 yards hitting the lungs and the top of the heart the bull only ran 30-40 yards, fell over and we heard the death bellow. Absolutely fantastic old duggaboy with plenty of age and big bosses.

Bullet recovered from the first bull, shot was just behind the shoulder and was recovered on the opposite shoulder, perfect performance from Woodleigh as usual.

The second bull came on the morning of day 5, after tracking a group of 4 bulls for 3 and a half hours and bumping them once, we managed to get into position for a shot on this huge bodied non-trophy bull at around 70 yards. One shot taking out both lungs, the bull only ran about 30 yards and fell over giving only a very short and quick death bellow. He was an absolute tank of a bull. The apprentice PH that was with us managed to film the shot with her phone.

The third bull came on the morning of day 7 after following a bull along the edge of the Bubye river and bumping it we saw another bull a few hundred yards further up the river. After tracking it for a short distance we spotted him resting under a tree at about 70-80 yards. First shot was a quartering shot and I managed to whack him up the back end as well with a second shot as he turned and ran from the first shot. After only a few minutes we found the bull down and breathing heavy but he got back up and I put a few more shots into him in a very exciting follow up before he was down for good. Unfortunately one shot hitting the horns, not 100% sure which follow up shot it was but I was shooting through alot of thick bush on the follow up shots so it could have even been from a bit of a deflection from a branch. Either way I'm not upset about it, just adds to the story of an exciting follow up and adds a bit more character to another fantastic old duggaboy. Again the apprentice PH captured the first shot for me on video.

If you are looking for buffalo I highly recommend getting in touch with Dave Langerman, an absolute gentleman and superb PH. Dave and his team worked extremely hard, Dave's trackers are also outstanding. Tracking that second bull on day 5 for hours through very very thick bush was very impressive. I also need to mention the apprentice PH that was with us, young Jodie was an absolute pleasure to hunt with and worked just as hard as anyone else I have seen in the field, even at a young age she demonstrated all the the attributes you want to see in a PH. Jodie is definitely going to be a superstar and a fantastic PH in her own right in the future.

I also can't say enough good things about the camp staff and the BVC in general, the camps are amazing, the food was unbelievably good. There is a huge amount of game, we saw our target species everyday even though it's early season and the bush is very thick, absolutely amazing hunting.

Very well done AH, those are all fantastic old bulls. I have yet to hunt BVC, but it is on the cards. Jodie is coming along well, she is going to be a very good PH, along with the other ladies who are in the game like Liesl Denny. I had the pleasure of hunting with Jodie's man, David Mann, also a very capable new PH.

Waidmannsheil @Aussie_Hunter , some very fine bulls there! Well done!

Congratulations on a successful, action packed hunt! Am I misremembering or is this your first African hunt?

Absolute pleasure hunting with you! We had a fantastic time and that .500 Jefferey was truly impressive. Can't wait to do it again!

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
