Soonest/Safest return to South Africa?

On a lighter note—checked yesterday airfare to jnb ...mid August it was 1004 round trip from Charleston SC thru ATL-700$ cheaper than my last flight 200 for Delta...have a blessed Easter!

I’m hoping that stays the same. Gonna wait a bit to see if August is gonna happen before rebooking.

I think international travel may be done until there is a vaccine. Anyway for the tourist.

Either a vaccine or some type of prophylaxis. Another option is a quarantine of some sort for all incoming travelers.
Unfortunately that probably wouldn't help the safari business. On the positive side, I'm hoping a new shorter time frame protocol for approving drugs comes out of this.

Moved our RSA hunt dates from May 16th to the last week of August. Took my Qatar Airways refund and book Delta tickets (ORD-AT L-JNB). It was worth the risk to me as the fare was $754, about $900 less than "normal" on Delta and about $100 less than what I had originally paid for with QA. Now I don't have the foreign country transit concerns either.

I wonder if everyone arriving from international travel will be tested after deplaning. If found positive, what's the closest military installation to Atlanta that's set up for the fourteen day quarantine?

If I could Slip my own hope in here it would be that I get tested for the antibodies and the result is positive, somehow allowing me to make the travel as soon as it is opened up. But that’s not much more likely than hair growing on my head so we just do the best we can.

The European Union has closed borders until May 15.

The President of the European Comission, Mrs. Ursula Von der Leyen is advising Europeans not to make any holiday plans for July or August.

Future looks bleak :(

EU chief warns against making holiday plans amid coronavirus crisis https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-plans.html?ito=native_share_article-masthead

Jet-setters hoping for a European getaway this summer have been warned by EU chiefs not to start making holiday plans amidst the coronavirus crisis.

Countries in the European Union are being warned to keep their borders closed until September by key player, France.

It comes as France told EU leaders this weekend that it would maintain strict border controls until October 30.

Meanwhile, French president, Emmanuel Macron, has called for external borders with the passport-free Schengen zone, of which Britain is not a part, to remain closed until September.

So far there have been more than 130,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in France and more than 14,000 deaths. There has 84,279 cases in the UK and 10,612 deaths.

Such a move could could cause major disruption for Britons hoping to travel to Europe for their summer holidays.

Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission President, has since warned people not to make summer holiday plans.

NATIONAL LOCKDOWN
The Minister of Transport announced various regulations around transport during the lockdown. Included in these regulations is aviation. During the lockdown, all domestic and international air travel will be prohibited.

Tourism is not an essential service and therefore needs to adhere to the lockdown regulations that came into effect on 27 March 2020.

We appeal to tour operators and tour guides to act responsibly, and halt all operations as per the president’s declaration of a national lockdown. This will ensure the safety of everyone within the country.

I poke around on the News24 South Africa web site from time to time.

Last night there was an article referencing the S.A. scientific community's projected Peak on Covid-19 infections. They predict the peak won't occur until September - or about the end of their winter. The article also indicated the prior (pre lockdown) peak date was July.

When are people going to stop believing and worrying about media and these predictions?!

Some "articles" said 7 million Americans would be dead from CV by May too. Complete and utter BS.

Speculating on the accuracy is a waste of time just let it play out and evaluate the numbers that are reported (which are also manipulated but not as much) instead of some BS predictions.

Lots of articles are written on how bad "trophy hunting" is for african wildlife yet none of you take those at face value. Why is this different?

Maybe but the flu vaccine everyone puts their faith in only works less than half the time. Time will tell but we must stand up and fight for our freedoms. They are being trampled on.

Got a message from my PH regarding our June 11th Hunt. The general idea was to open the conversation of postponing until either later in the year or 2021. We are looking at 2021 dates.

The upside: I’ll likely add a few days and will add a few animals. The generosity of a full credit postponement will increase our trophy budget. (Hmm, I’ve never hunted buff...)

When are people going to stop believing and worrying about media and these predictions?! .......

Since this thread was about an actual predictive question; Soonest, Safest return to South Africa, reporting what is going on in RSA, what science or voodoo Cyril is basing his governments actions upon is relevant. Perhaps we should pay attention to them?!

Sadly, most members on AH do not have ready access to the actual update from the President and thus rely on media outlets to broadcast information.
As with any information gleaned, we should look for multiple sources and origins to attempt to formulate an informed decision for ourselves.

To that end.

Here is the RSA COVID WEBSITE link.

Chances of any travel into South Africa before early June about Zero ..... Maybe even later.

I suggest all keep in contact with their Outditters and for those who are flexible on dates it might be a little easier.

Keep Safe and Happy Hunting !

In Atlanta, they would likely go to the CDC.
