SOUTH AFRICA: My Trip To Huntershill Safaris

Excellent report auto correct and all (I’ve had the same issues in my reports!)
Thanks for sharing your grand adventure!

Thanks for the report! I enjoyed reading it. A good collection of trophies, and some fine shots. I just got back from my first hunt last month, and enjoyed it immensely, so I know how you are feeling right now. I am still glowing from the trip.

Great to read your report! I already know your thoughts about HH, but it was great to be able to experience your hunt with you in your report. Love your Nyala! Totally agree on the Gemsbok being one of the most beautiful animals, and very impressed with your Impala! A lot bigger than I had seen there! (But I didn't go to Rockland's ... Maybe next time!) Impressive shooting too! Your military background sure paid off....... Gotta tease you a bit about your sideways smile on your forehead though! LOL! I don't really like to ask, but did you measure your Sable?
Great hunt! Would be nice to see you there sometime!

Unfortunately I didn't measure anything while in Africa. That being said I'm expecting my taxidermy by the end of July. So I'll be sure to be measuring everything as soon as it arrives. I've been itching to know.

How did you make the kudu shot? Prone with bipod? Off the sticks?

Yes I was shooting way too uphill to be able to lay prone. It was a much steeper angle then the zebra. And you know how it is with all the rocks etc. You just can't get a nice flat spot to lay. There were these little bushes that were about 5' high. We used them as cover to glass behind. But one of them had a nice V perfectly for me at sitting height. So I was able to rest the rifle in the V and sit very comfortably behind it.

One tip, and I won't charge for this one lol. If you wear a bino harness on your chest. Like the padded covers like kuiu, vortex and many other brands make. If you position it correctly on your chest. You can shift it a little to the side. And it makes a great rear rest when shooting standing, off sticks and in prone. Sliding it forward and back on the harness gives you your major elevation adjustment assuming your using a standard hunting style stock with a sloped butt. Then squeezing and releasing the harness pad allows you to make those minor elevation adjustments.

Chago very well summarized report on what sounds like an amazing hunt. Your sable looks great and that is an impressive looking impala. I booked a hunt at HH for early May next year a few months ago and had just recently got over the excitement from booking then I went and read your report, well my angst is renewed again. From the sounds of your hunting style I feel a great deal more reassured I will have a great experience with the types of hunts I'm after. Once again thanks for the great report from a future HH hunter, and congrats on your successful hunts.

The first picture of the thread is automatically shown in the preview. I uploaded a trophy picture so that will show instead.

Congrats a great hunt with good trophies !

Thanks for sharing.

Who's doing your taxidermy for you?

Great hunt and great report. I really enjoyed the style of report. I was also happy to read from a very satisfied HH client. I think it gives some great perspective. Where do you hunt in Canada? Just got home from Smithers, Jasper and Banff for vacation. Thanks again.

I left it with there local guy Umlindi. Not sure if I'm going to regret this yet lol. I read all the warnings. But I was ok considering getting it to Canada then doing the work was literally triple the cost. I'm expecting them soon. I'll take pics. But honestly for 1/3 the price. I can live with a lower standard then I'm used to with my local game.... To an extent..... We will see lol

That's western Canada. Basically hunters Disney Land. So everything I have in Ontario plus they have pronghorn, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, mule deer etc. That is a amazing part of Canada. I'm in eastern Canada. Near Toronto.

Re reading it all. And noticed a million auto corrects, spelling errors, typos. Please ignore. This production was brought to you on a Google pixel xl 2. Ie a cell phone.
That'll do it...
