Can anyone help me with Wyoming?

So the suggestion about 83 is a good choice. I have been told that area 6 and 7 have decent amounts of BLM land. 6 looks like you might be able to draw. I saw a TV program with Jim Burnworth hunting the Powder River breaks. At the time I believed it to of been unit 16 which a non resident could of drawn as a second choice.
Areas 22 and 23 have tags left after the draw because there is a lot of private land there. I hunt 23. The rancher leases to an outfitter but retains the rights to 2 bucks each year. He also allows doe/fawn hunting without any charge. I chatted with a couple of guys at a gas station 2 yrs ago hunting unit 17. All of the pronghorn had been run off the public land and they left without their animals. I offered to try and help them get on a ranch, but they had another tag they wanted to hunt instead. I don't know how many doors they knocked on...... If your going to hunt private land you need to line it up BEFORE the draw. I know a rancher who is charging a $500 trespass fee. You will get an antelope if you can shoot straight out to 250 yds. Any questions and I'll try to help.

If you want to save your points you could skip the draw and pick up area 23 type 2 tags after the leftover draw is over. The type 2 tags are for private land only and I'm sure you could find a ranch to hunt on there, some ranchers are charging $500 but a few more are charging $100 to $200 per gun. Just start your research early, get land owner lists from Game & Fish, local game warden, game biologists, local chamber of commerce, etc.

I used to live in Carbon County. Back then it produced the best bucks in the state. Do t let the private land scare you off. There’s good hunting to be had, even in the checkerboard if you study the maps and do a little scouting.

I’ve hunted all over Montana so I’m well versed in checkerboard ownership and have had stellar hunts on small sections of blm and state that are often overlooked, so that sounds perfect. Thanks!

Thank you all for the help and insight! I’ve sent a couple of you PMs as offered. I sure appreciate it and I’m really liking this forum and you fine folks!
