Gun or caliber you’ve never owned but always wanted?

.300 Weatherby and .338 Win Mag. I doubt those will ever happen, but a .416 Remington or .500 Jeffery might.

i would love an original gibbs farquarson in a fast 40 cal black powder express.
if it had metford segmental rifling that would be good.
not sure if he ever did them in 450/400 x 3 1/4", but that would scrach an itch.
the light bullet express 40s shot flatter than the express 45s, and killed as well or better due to higher sectional density.
of course not dangerous game rifles.
in the day well loaded black powder express ammunition was expected to shoot acceptably up tp 10 shots before fouling became an issue.
this could in part be due to curtiss and harvey diamond grain powder burning cleaner than most other, but also due to a good understanding of lube wads.
use in the more humid tropics could well have been of assistance with fouling, compared to dry deserts.
lube wads? - yes most of them had no grease grooves, being paper patched.
bruce.

I have always wanted a double in 470 NE. Another is a winchester m70 in 270win. I don't know why i haven't got one yet but they are not that common here i Sweden and the price are generally very affordable but anyhow one day I will find one.
And the the third is a 404 jeffery. Since Mauser unfortunately discontinued this barrel for the Mauser M03, if I can't get a used one, I might build one on a Brno ZKK 602 action.

Custom 416 Taylor - don't know why been eating at me for years!

A Blaser R8 package with two barrels, each with its own scope, and that cool carrying case. One barrel a .375 H&H magnum, the other in .300 magnum. I think they call it their Selous safari package or something like that.

@Dewald what are "Southgate ejectoctors"?

A cam type of ejector, instead of one that works directly with a coil spring such as the Baker.

It is a giveaway on a fine double when you notice the pin on the side of the fore-end metal that it has southgate ejectors.

I've always wanted a Rigby rifle marked .275. Also a .470 NE for no other reason than I like the numbers. I wish I could get back some of the toys I sold and traded over the years and regretted ever since.

I’ve wanted a .404 Jeffery for a long time. Hard to justify with a .375 H&H and .458 Lott in the safe.

As long as we are writing to Santa, I would also like a vintage 450/400 double gun that’s been there and done that.

Oh, and if any of you have the 1895 Win in .303 that I sold in a moment of sheer stupidity, I’d really like to get it back. I plead temporary insanity on that one.

Laundry list of them really, I always wanted one nice double rifle (not set on caliber), to build a bolt gun up in an odder caliber (6.5 Rem. mag or go big with something like a 358 win mag or 350 rem), to own an older XP-100 (caliber is a toss up, I could always use a varmint gun in 221 rem. fireball), and a Savage 99 , preferably in 300 Savage.

I'd like a nice svelte German kipplauf - single shot stalking rifle, in 7x64R. Stocked to fit me with upgraded wood, well done game scene engraving, and a good German scope to match. Perhaps a Merkel, or Krieghoff or a Blaser. In a fitted carry case. One can dream.

47 years ago I read Jacques Lott's "My Search for the Perfect Rifle" in the 1972 Guns & Ammo Annual.

Ever since then I have wanted a Modele de Luxe .375 Mauser by Holland & Holland.

Edit: The article stated the price in 1972 was $2,000.

Save your pennies, I have one, but just the base standard model, and it is wonderful! Very slim in the hand, easily carried in the pack. The 7x65R really reaches out there and gives almost 7mm mag performance with less recoil.

Shiloh Sharps 45-120 to my specs. Bought one for my father in law (ex) and it is ready to ship. Haven’t ordered one for myself (yet)!
You like your FiL that much?o_O I never did...:(

Von Gruff picked one of mine.:D WR in .318, that would be something. Actually there are very few guns I want that I have not tried at least once. When I get the itch, I scratch. I may only have something for a matter of weeks, but I find out if its something that really tickles me. Most don't:(, but how will you know if you don't try?
