Shell Holder Belt Placement

For those of you that wear a shell holder when hunting DG, do you prefer to wear it on your primary belt - ie the belt that holds up your pants that is in the belt loops? Or on a secondary belt that is loop free and just around your midsection area?

Im interested at the answers. Ive been using a Galco attached to my pants belt. Thinking of having a separate cull belt made from my buff backskin.

I just started toying with making my own ammo pouches... and made my first last week (it turned out much better than I thought it would honestly)...I was also thinking about trying to make one that attaches to the buttstock... but wasn’t sure how I’d feel about that for DG...

Either belt works for me, but it is convenient to use a separate belt to be able to remove the ammo without unbuckling pants belt.

I have my knife and ammo wallet on a separate belt just for convenience sake. It does flop around a bit when I'm walking so I am still experimenting.

I have worn mine on my pants belt. However, the new holder I purchased from the Els company in South Africa is for my 470 NE and I wear tha on a separate belt!

Separate belt but I also use a butt stock holder with 3 rounds of softs and 3 rounds of solids. I practice with this setup and have developed the muscle memory of reloading from the stock holder and reloading the stock holder from my belt.
Another reason for the separate belt is I have two rifles and I can change quicker [if at the vehicle] from one to the other.[340+458 L or 375+458L].

I use a left arm(I shoot right handed) wrist cartridge holder with 4 rounds as my primary and then two 10 round belt ammo carriers(both open) loose on my belt as secondary, so I can move them around and out of the way. One with solids and one with softs. Your needs may differ but that is what I use.

I find the wrist holder a lot faster and easier to use especially when I am reloading on the move...it is also the shortest and fastest way to reload without having to drop your hand down to your belt to top up especially when moving.

I use a separate belt with my ammo pouches and knife on it.
Note: I have a buttstock shell holder on my Ruger #1 in .458 Lott. If it ever goes for buffalo, I like that arrangement. I’ve practiced with both the buttstock and belt setups and I think the stock is faster to grab a round.

Have a Murray "culling" belt that handles .375 ammunition and Von Gruff knife. I wear it along with a regular web belt. Strap it on and go.

The fastest I have seen with a Ruger #1 was some rounds in loops on top of the shooters shoulder!!! Strange setup but worked extremely fast.

With the 500 Jeff about 4 is the comfort limit, 375 H&H 6.

Having 4 in the 500 Jeff rifle I would sometimes just put 2 in the wrist band.

The back green loop is elastic which allows caliber change and although they hold the cartridges firmly, they are very easy to extract.

When hunting bushpigs with our combination guns we use two each of these on our hunting belts, with a knife and a toggle rope to pull the pigs out.

I have caliber specific for every rifle. These are for my 470 Nitro.

I like the idea of a separate belt as I can slide the shell holder around and out of the way easily, switch between multiple murray leather holders for different calibers, and remove it easily. But the separate belt I feel like is bulky. I think I will probably end up using the separate belt. Just need to pick a belt, whether it's a Rigby Canvas belt or an all leather one.
