Reloading Addiction Group

Golly, So glad all you guys posted. For years I have thought I was obsessed as I bought my first reloading tool in 1944. It was a 310 tong tool also known as a nut cracker. Lyman made it and it was for a 25/20.
When on from there to a Truline JR—a Herters #3–then to a RCBS RC—which is about 40years old so this summer bought a RC iv .

But my point is after reading the above postings I realize I NEED. A lot more STUFF.
I will not go into dies and other equipment—the page is not long enough.
Been fun and a great ride thank for helping me see I have more to do.

Hi Tabre,...there are RCBS dies also...

I just added a 1951 Winchester 30-06 to the collection, that makes three

I've been reloading since I was 16 years old.....started out with a 12 gauge MEC 6oo jr, and then got a LEE load all in .30/30 Win. I heard about "saving money" (pretty good argument for a struggling college student), but I guess I really just wanted to shoot more. I bought a LEE load all for every caliber I got after that, and when I got out of college, one of my first purchases was a LEE hand press.....got it with the idea of moving on later to a more progressive press....but I'm still using that LEE hand press; it works just fine and suits my needs. While I do a lot of metallic reloading, my main interest was shotguns: I loaded hunting and target loads, nontoxic loads for waterfowl (steel, bismuth, and hevishot), blanks for dog training, buckshot, and slugs. I used to spend a LOT of time on call, so I reloaded to pass the time.....I probably have enough hunting loads now to last me for the rest of my life. I no longer reload for target loads in 12 or 20 gauge, as it isn't economical, but I do still reload target loads in 16 gauge. I always enjoyed testing my reloads for patterning and velocity.......I find it very frustrating when companies discontinue a product I favor (i.e. Winchester silver tips and IMR 4756:(). As for metallic reloading, I load just about everything I shoot with the exception of 7.65 Luger, and that's only because I vacillate between selling the gun and keeping it.
Currently I'm reloading for: .223 Remington, 6.5x55 Swede; .30/30 Winchester, .30-06, .308 Winchester, .35 Remington, .338 Win. Mag, .375 H&H mag, .380 ACP, 9mm Luger, .38 Special, .38 Super +P, .357 mag, .44 Rem mag, and .45 ACP.
I cast bullets for most of what I shoot......came in handy during the shortages of the Obama administration.

One thing I have notices is that some of my favorite bullets get discontinued, so I have found it wise to buy a decent quantity even if the maker says there are no plans to stop production. Can you say Speer MagTips, Nosler Solid Base, and Winchester SilverTip?

Yup. I was trying to find 350gr Hornady Flat Point .458 bullets a bit back and my normal honey holes were out.

I got skeer'd real fast, thinking that Hornady had quietly discontinued them.

Found some at Midsouth and bought four boxes to add to my stash of five boxes. The prices was at "closeout" levels, too. $21/50!

Edit: Oh, and added another caliber to my list tonight....loaded my first 40 300 Blackout.

Are you going sub-sonic with the Blackout?

Keep going Rob, I have four of them now. I had 6 a while back but in a few moments of weakness I sold a couple of them.

Not with these first loads....just piddling with H110 and 2400, and 110gr Speers and 125gr Sierra.

This is going to be my wife's truck gun and am eventually going to put together a pig/yote load for her that is comfortable shooting.

Just getting my feet wet with a new round.

Sounds like a plan, I think you'll find out that any load in a Blackout will be comfortable to shoot. I use heavy sub-sonic loads for hunting around the neighborhood (with a suppressor) as to not upset the neighbors. They don't even know that I am shooting.

I also have a mild addiction. I was introduced into reloading by my uncle who would let me help him while he was loading for his 357 Mag. Fast forward to when I became an adult (ok, really, not yet there), and I bought my first press a small lee single stage. Now I currently own 3 Dillon 550s, 2 RCBS Rock Chuckers & a Reddings Big Boss Press.

Pistol:
9mm
38 Super
357 Sig
357 Mag
40S&W
45ACP
44 Mag

Rifles:
223 Rem
5.56
22-250 Rem
243 Win
6.8 SPC
300 Blackout
308 Win
25-06 Rem
270 Win
30-06 Springfield
280 Rem
7mm STW
240 Wby
257 Wby
270 Wby
7 mm Wby
300 Wby
6.5-300 Wby
375 H&H

Unfortunately I do not reload for shotgun, but I do own a MEC JR, just in case. :)
I also have brass for rifles I do not own, but may one day own one. :)

I am finding that this is one of the best predictors.

Exactly what this predicts, I will allow the reader to decide! ;)

I just added a pretty Rare but very shootable Winchester M70 built in 1988 chambered in 270 Weatherby Mag

Thanks I never knew Winchester chambered anything in Weatherby calibers but evidently they did in 1988 and 2002, It was a closet Queen most likely from the uncomfortable recoil that all Weatherbys have and this one is no exception

If you shoot shotguns you really should consider handloading. the recent tendency of the ammo makers has been to cheapen the shotshells, in particular the hulls. For example, Winchester previously made their AA line with compression formed one piece plastic hulls. Awhile back the time tested and highly desirable "CF" hulls were discontinued in favor of poly construction "HS" hulls, which are a variation of the straight tube plus base wad hulls found in hulls designed to be fired once and tossed.

I had to get my reloading fix today so I punched out 100 7mm Rem mag with some 140gr Barnes TTSX bullets in them, and then I punched out another 100 rounds or 7-30 Waters with a 120gr Nosler Balistic Tip for my Thompson Center Contender.

I was still a little bit jettery so I started to look for some .348 Winchester brass and found that Starline makes it. So sometime after Thanksgiving I'll get a package of 250 .348 Winchester brass in it.

My only problem is that I took a real good look at my old Lyman T mag press and it is starting to show it's age, the wear and tear is close to the point that I'll need to pick up a RCBS Rock Chucker for Christmas.

It is right and good that you did not resist.

I’ve been reloading since I was 21 and I’m now 62. I’ve always shot a lot but since I retired a couple of years ago... well, I couldn’t afford to shoot this much if I didn’t reload. But more than that, I get the satisfaction out of developing the load that is best for the gun, game and bullet.
Am I addicted? Heck yes and darn proud of it. When scrounging range brass, it’s rare not to pick up something I don't load for. 41 rifle and handgun cartridges, plus three gauges of shotgun and counting.

Until this guy posts something on pay it forward free I would avoid him at all costs.

If it hasn't sold by next week I might be interested. Stock would have to be changed along with some other items. I'm already having a 416 Rigby built so money is a tad bit tight.

Hey pal! I'll take all the .375 bullets if they're available.
Thanks!
