REPORT: Has Anyone Used Splitting Image Taxidermy?

Guess we'll get it sorted out. I told Marius just yesterday I just can't get pumped up about hunting hippo, don't know why. So I decided to hunt the buffalo in Limpopo and then travel to the cape together to hunt vahl rhebok klipsringer waterbuck bushbuck blackwildbeest and springbuck.

WHAT? YOUR NOT HUNTING HIPPO NOW? Heck I thought this was a dip PAC thread not earth shattering news like this. I was hoping to swap stories with you on the hunt.
However, buff will get you pumped up for sure! Marius has access to good buff down his way and over near Kruger.

We used them on our last hunt. Super professional and prices were fair.

Interesting point, did you have a problem with them packing too close?

They wrapped the animals and the 2x2, but they were too close together, by the time they got to Wisconsin the board had rubbed a patch out of two animals necks. My bushbuck and nyala were partially ruined. But if you are doing dip and pack that should not be a problem.

That's a great idea to hunt the buffalo on the cape. That will definitely save money and time.

I know Charlie, for some reason I just can't get pumped to hunt hippo. I know the experience would be great but I guess it's just not my have to have list especially since the taxidermy I would want is just out of budget.

That is why I thought I would say something. (y) if you ask him now maybe he can work something out for you. He may not be able to but I thought it would be worth the try to see.

Yep definitely worth asking.

NG. We need to go up north. Was worth a try.

Hey everyone, SSI will be handling my DG and PG hunt this year with KMG. They recommended I use Splitting Image to dip/pack. Anyone have any experience with them?
I used them on my last hunt. They mounted and packed a full mount warthog, klipspringer and springhare, shoulder mounts of a bushbuck, blue wildebeest, and buffalo as well as a number of backskins and skulls. Quality of taxidermy was excellent, everything arrived in perfect shape, and it was cheaper than if I had shipped skins and had the work done here (I did a comparison with my local taxidermist). I'm not sure what one of the previous responders was talking about with regards to extra costs and add-ons. I am looking at my invoice as I type this and there is nothing out of the ordinary. I will give Splitting Image nothing but high marks all around.

Yes I'm sure they can. Marius uses Hunters and Collectors who from what I've heard also does a good job on dip and pack. Prices are very similar but the titling point for me is Hunters promised to have everything shipped before they shut down for the holidays where's as Splitting Image was not able to promise that.

I used splitting image and did not get the trophy that I shot! Forget the fact that it took a year to get someone else's trophy which bears no resemblance whatsoever. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!

I have used Splitting Image twice and am very pleased with both the quality of the work, and also their customer relations.
The point of contact is Aschlee and she is both prompt and knowledgeable regarding the whole process.
Just 2 weeks ago 5 friends and I finished a 10 day management hunt with Russ Field Safaris in Grahamstown and Queenstown SA.
After the hunt we rented a small van and drove around seeing the sights, then spent the last night in Port Elizabeth.
Enroute to the airport we stopped at Splitting Image to visit and meet Aschlee and the rest of the staff. It was nice to meet in person, someone that I had worked with in the past via email only.
We were given total access to the facility and it was fun to see the process at different stages and the overwhelming number trophies covering every wall.
Have no worry using them
DO NOT USE them they sent me the wrong trophy after a year !

Do you have some pictures to share? Your trophy and the one you were sent.

I wouldn’t recommend them either, by time they added up all the extra
Fees the dip & pack / shipping was going to cost almost the same price as my hunt.

I made the mistake of using them based on a recommendation from my importer. Definitely won’t use them again.

Any elaboration on what happened?

Work looked good but were very pricey compared to Mordou Taxidermy. In fact almost twice as much. I have used Mordou to mount animals before and they do good work. This is with them doing taxidermy in africa.

I used Splitting Image for my Eastern Cape trophies that I took with African Cape Safaris. Nice shop and Aschlee was very efficient. My only complaints are that they were more expensive than Highveld for more basic mounts. Also, I never received any pictures of my mounts until they were crated. The crate was given to Badger Cargo. Please, understand that Badger did an efficient job of handling my crate. However, I contacted Oxi-Logistics with weight and dimensions of my crate and asked what they would have charged from Port Elizabeth. They would have been about $600 cheaper. Oxi also takes credit cards. Badger could not. I absolutely hate wire transfers.
Having said all of that, my mounts are beautiful. @johnnyblues: I'm sorry that you had a negative experience.
