Scope on .375

What do you think about a Leupold scope 2.5x8 for a .375?

I think a 2.5 by 8 VX III would be perfect. I have four including one on my 375 H&H.

I have a 2.5-8 36mm Leupold VIII on my 375 H&H and think it's good. The 375 can be used at close and long range. So I really like the scope choice.

I have a few 2.5x8 scopes on various .338s and a couple of M700 Mountain rifles, and like them very much for these purposes. I was going to put a 1.5-5 on this .375, but I think I will go with the 2.5x8.

I think you will find the additional xpower useful on longer shots. It use to be that the 375 H&H was thought of as a shorter range gun. 150 yrds or less. With the premium bullets and weights that are available now, the 375 H&H is easily a 300 yard + gun.

I have got two 375 H&H rifles and both have a 3.5-10X40 Leupold. I hunted with them from Africa to Canada , my best shooting with this caliber- scope was 305 metres to an American Bison and the shortest was to 20 meters to a Wild boar in Spain. The 375 H&H is a caliber that has a good trayectory, I think that your choice is good idea but it would also be a good idea to put a more power ful scope

A Leupold 2.5-8 is a good choice. I have used one of various calibers including 375 and mostly in wooded country. One great thing about the Leupold is its very generous eye relief. This is very handy when shooting from different positions. Another good choice is the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. Has better optics, especially early morning and late evening. It does have a little less eye relief (4 inches), but thats plenty even for 375.

I disagree! The 375 H&H has always been a long range rifle, that is why it displaced the most popular round in 1912 when the 375 H&H came out. It replaced the 450/400NE 3" as a better all around cartridge. The 375 H&H is just like the mail man hits the same place every day, no matter the weather, or the range! Like any chambering, you just have to learn to shoot it!

There isn't a better cartridge for Caribou, elk, moose or Bear, and it is legal for all big game in Africa. Ammo for it is available in any country in the world where big game hunting is allowed, and will work quite handily for everything from Titmouse, to Tyrannosaurus Rex, in wind, heat or snow!

I have a 3-9X40MM scope on one of my 375s, and a 2-7X40mm on the other! The trejectory of the 375 H&H with a full load with a 300 gr nosler partition is almost identical the trejectory od 30-06 with a 180 gr bullet, so these two make a great combination for a heavy and light for Africa, the hold for each is the same at the same distance. For one rifle for the world no better choice exists than the old three six bits by H&H.

Dugaboy1, I think my login of 375lvr should say it all. My point was that there is a perception of people who have never experienced a 375 H&H (which is most NA hunters), that it is a big heavy slow bullet, thus short range gun. I was hunting Pronghorns in Wyoming last year with my 375 last year. Everyone thought I was nuts ! I can say that anything I have have shot (NA/Africa) with the 375 H&H from 60yards to 250yards have dropped like a ton of bricks. So we are definitely in the same camp.

I think the 2 1/2 - 8 Leupold is a great scope. I am a little but of a .375 nut also. I have a old mauser .375 with a light 26 barrel being restocked in a nice trim classic style. It will have a 2 1/2 - 8 on it with the same idea to make it a plains game rifle that can go buff hunting "not the other way around".

First post for me and have found this a great site. I recently bought a 375 ruger with the 2.5x8 Leupold for an African hunt next year. Out of the box it shot 1" x 3 shot groups at 100 mts with the factory 270 Gn Hornadys. I was a bit surprised but very pleased with performance. Have used the combination on Sambar deer down here with great results. Have used Leupolds for 30 years and never had a bad one.

...duga boy you said it all! That is my 1-2 punch for rifles! As far as scopes any quality 2.5 x8, or 3x9 is a good choice. the Leupold is a great choice!
