Anyone have experience with Coppersmith in Chicago? Any particular agent that was extremely helpful? I'm probably going to use them for my upcoming trip, and planned to have my stuff shipped to Chicago as I'm hoping to use @The Artistry of Wildlife for my taxidermy.

I’m looking at using them to bring trophies back from UK in couple weeks. Semi hesitant as they don’t handle the opposite side of the ocean which could lead to big issues on our side of ocean

Contact Dennis direct as he uses Coppersmith.

Call Tammy Lewis. 404-366-1650
She’s in Atlanta but she will know who to talk to in Chicago
She’s great to work with. I’ve used her 4or5 times. If it’s cites type stuff use safari specialists
Rosella is ruthless

Thank you sir!

Dennis will put you in touch with Michael at Coppersmith. Michael is a good guy and did a good job for me. Realize that Coppersmith only helps you on this side of the pond. If that's all you want they are great. If you want help from the second the animal leavet the outfitter then check out SSI. I've used them and not used them.

Based on issues I've had on the other side I will use them again in the future (they will be importing my Zim trip).

Thanks Royal! Most of my stuff should be straightforward, but the wife wants a caracal. That's the only part that makes me nervous as I believe that is a CITES issue...

It's more than just the permits. It's also making sure everything gets done and gets done in a timely manner. They know more and do it for a living. Again, it's insurance on the other side too. It isn't always as straight forward as it should be. :)

Safari Specialist Importers also has a Chicago office.

Also as Royal said they take care of your animal really from the time that they hit the ground until they are at their destination here in the US. They will contact your safari operator to let them know that they are going to handle things along with working with the dip and pack company. They do it all, and as was mentioned Rosella is a pit bull when something doesn't go right

I used them on my only safari and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. They might cost a little bit more but I believe that they do a lot more in the long run.

We have used Michael at the Chicago Coppersmith office on four consecutive shipments from SA. Our experience....outstanding. He has handled everything with the broker on the SA side...we had the outfitter deliver to the Taxidermist and Michael took it from there...the best part was we paid Coppersmith upon their taking possession of the shipment in Chicago...one payment for air, SA broker and delivery to our door here in Illinois. What could be easier. Their fee in total was $400 m/l for their clearing services. My son is experienced in international shipping and logistics and was very satisfied with it all. Call him you will be satisfied. PM me for any further info. Also, they will arrange transfer of your shipment to any taxidermist of your choice. Or have the shipment trucked to your door.

When I hunted the eastern cape a few years ago, Coppersmith was linked in with the shipping firm in Port Elizabeth. I paid the dip, pack and crating fees directly to the PE taxidermist (Hunters and Collectors). When Rex Freight picked it up and got it to Joberg and on the plane, all those charges were rolled into Coppersmith's system and I made one payment to them for everything up to final delivery to the tannery in Montana. I've used Coppersmith's Seattle and Atlanta office and always been impressed with the service and communication.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
