Best thing for water proofing Courtney boots

Hi guys Im going to go mountain walking next week and want to take my courtneys. This is going to be in not so sunny Scotland so I need to water proof them.
Also does anyone use them in extreme cold conditions??

I fiddled around with this for ages. I finally settled on Montana Pitch Blend. Get the oil and the dressing. First with the oil and then on with the dressing.

I did not find anything to make it "waterproof". Bring extra socks!

This product, however, seems to provide very good resistance. I also made sure I rub it into the threads and the side of the leather at the sole where it is layered.

I found commercial waterproofing for your city boots to be crap.

I think you are in the UK (Norfolk being the giveaway); I believe I came across a product online there that is supposed to be excellent. If I find it I will let you know. In the end I wanted something that would preserve the leather as well as waterproof it.

Let us know what you settle on.

I have a jar of Miendel cream stuff that I might use. Don't have Montana pitch blend in the UK. There is Montrose gold blend a very bad blended whiskey

You can get this off of Amazon or buy it online direct. Great stuff for boots or really any leather. I tried the liquid version on a leather jacket and it made it look better than new.

tried once in switzerland in winter and my feet werent exactly warm, so i promise you i wont be trying that again ....maybe with good thermal socks, but they werent designed as winter boots and with so many other better options for those conditions, or wet scottish weather why use your courtneys in those conditions?.....

I have been thinking about that as I would need them for my mid Asian ibex trip I have planned which is why I ask about extreme cold conditions. The major issue I'll have is not having them broken in. If I was younger it wouldn't bother me much like it didn't 10 years ago when I did just that. Bought some boot left the shop in them then covered some 20 or so highland miles

I'll be in Spain for Ibex next October and British Columbia the following year for goat. Purchased a pair of Kenetrek Mountain Extreme uninsulated. Been wearing them around the place, and they are remarkably comfortable out of the box for a fairly aggressive mountain boot. Hunted Spanish Ibex last year in a boot with inadequate ankle support (true of Courtneys as well if used on steep terrain) - will not do that again. Can absolutely recommend these.

I am not a fan of an insulated boot for mountain hunting. They are great on a deer or wild boar stand in truly bitter weather, but cumbersome if tackling rough ground . The gortex liner is the real difference maker.

I wear Russell boots. they recommend Obenaufs, which is what I use and find that it waterproofs as well as any leather can be- which is water repellant for a certain time, not water proof and not forever. I have had Gore-Tex lined boots and in every case after about a year the lining dried/cracked and then leaked as a sieve.

I have had Gore-Tex lined boots and in every case after about a year the lining dried/cracked and then leaked as a sieve.

Guess I have been lucky. In the last decade, at least, never an issue with better quality boots. For instance I have a pair Dubarry Galway Knee boots that I have owned for a eight or nine years. I have worn them in Canada on at least four hunts, probably a dozen hunts in the states and hundreds of shooting outings for tower pheasants and pigeons - often in drizzle or snow. Never a leak, never a crack, and totally waterproof to this day. I have a set of Danner upland boots that I have owned at least that long and hunted just as hard. Never a leak and never a crack. They breathe and remain moisture proof - not resistant.

I have a couple of pair of Russell PHs - great boots for what they are which is a glorified tennis shoe with better soles and stitching. Their regular leather boots have never fit me well (yes they have my lasts) and seem rather archaic in design. That said, I haven't owned a gortex lined product of their make.
