Getting close, starting to feel real. Leaving on July 19 for 9 day plains game hunt. Getting everything gathered up and making check lists to go over in the last few days. Loads worked up, just need final practice days. The wife and I are getting impatient!
Got a question for some of you other East Texas guys. Who do ya'll recommend for taxidermy?

Hi
Not from East Texas but I am from Colorado and I am having Dennis do my trophies from my last trip to SA and now from New Zealand.
How many trophies are you having done? If he is already doing some one in Texas he will probably deliver both orders to you and save you a bunch in the shipping. He is so good with the African trophies and arranging shipping you will not believe it.
Check out @The Artistry of Wildlife on AH.

Best of luck! We're heading to NZ in 11 days and the anticipation is getting pretty unbearable too.

Looking forward to your report!

Best of luck and enjoy!

I have looked at a lot of pictures of Dennis' work. It's awesome. Been comparing some prices and his were actually lower than one that is within a few hours of me. Not sure how many mounts we will end up with, but some will be euro mounts and tanned hides to hang on the wall or over the back of couch and recliners. Don't have a trophy room.

Thank you reedy0312. We met some of you guys at the AH dinner at DSC this year and last. Looking forward to next year, hopefully with some stories to share.

PLM I wish you the best of luck on your hunt, Dennis Harris at Artistry of Wildlife does all my work and puts up with me being a picky PIA! thanks Dennis. He posted some of my 20 some African critters he is working on right now a few weeks ago, He also did an amazing job on the huge stag in my avatar and I trusted him to mount my #12 SCI tahr full body and it was awesome ( the report and pict are on the board here somewhere) he does great work and does deliver and even stays and help me hang stuff and arrange my trophy room with me. he is great guy give him a call before you leave he can help with shipping and knows dip pack people.

Thanks Buckdog. I am doing some contacts this week hope to finalize arrangements in the next few days

So far my local taxidermist has done my mounts, does very well with African mounts as my friend has been to Africa over 10 times, but my next trip,I'm gonna have Dennis do a few as his work is unbelievable beautiful

@PLM please let us know where you are hunting and I'm always curious to know what rifle has been chosen to do the job.

For a first time in Africa you are going to have an absolute blast, what a pleasure to have this to look forward to in the next few weeks.

Best of luck and enjoy every moment.

Dennis of @The Artistry of Wildlife. Looking forward to getting my trophies back soon! Best of luck;)

PLM,

I recommend Ty's Taxidermy, located in Vidor. They will handle your trophies through customs and do excellent work.

This may be too far from where you live, but figured I would let you know. Best of luck on your trip! You are going to have the time of your life!

I'm in West Texas but would like to mention my taxidermist Safari Studios in San Angelo. There are lots of good taxidermists in Texas though!
Philip

Best of luck sir! Following this also for taxidermy recommendation, albeit I'm on the other side of the state. I've heard good things about a guy near San Antonio, but I can't remember the name of the shop now.

I used a guy in Ingram, TX for my auodad and he did a great job. Tom Mudgett with Wildlife Enterprises

I used Conroe Taxidermy (North of Houston). Excellent work.

I toured their business BEFORE I went to Africa.
They gave me many suggestions on proper field preparation of my future trophies.

Enjoy your trip.
I am looking forward to going back in the next few years.

+1 ... Mike Simpson at Conroe Taxidermy is a true artist.

If you are more behind the Pine Curtain, I have several friends who have used http://www.thesportsmansmemoryshop.com/ in Grapeland, TX and would recommend that you consider having your taxidermy done in Africa (others on the website will not :)!). I used Relive taxidermy in Port Elizabeth and cleared my owhntrophies in Houston (port of entry) and saved a boatload of money with excellent quality workmanship.

I get all mine done by Frank McCarty outside of Lufkin on 59n.
