We have a trip planned for SA in April and our agent had us booked to use Limcroma, but we wanted to stay with the PH we originally planned to use. Then I get a link in my news feed about Limcroma. I wonder if there will be any impact on the hunters using them this year?

Has anyone had issues getting trophies into the US? This is my first trip to SA and would like to know if there are any tips I need to make the transport as smooth as possible. I'm sure a lot of it depends on the outfitter and the agent.

"Texas man sues when horns from rhino he killed not delivered
http://bit.ly/2kMiJPt ) the hunt was "completely legal" and the company, Limcroma Safaris, failed to fulfill its contractual duties to send the horns.

Many airlines won't transport such hunting trophies, including from the so-called big five African animals: lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards and Cape buffalo.

A spokesman for Limcroma Safaris didn't immediately return a phone call Thursday seeking comment."

I read about this on another forum. You could send an email to Limcroma, there may be another side to this story.

I have informed Limcroma about this thread and I assume they will get back to you right here.

Part of the Outfitters job is to get your properly prepared trophies to the destination taxidermy or dip & ship of your choice. They will likely have a preferred supplier they will suggest. Check them out.
If the paperwork is all in order it should be straight forward to get your trophies home through a reputable freight forwarder/shipper and, if you like clearing agent.
There are plenty of examples and you can also ask a Sponsor
SSI for a quote.

From my understanding the rhino horn was delivered to the taxidermist and taken from there.

Things happen, many people have had trophies lost, horns, claws, bones and or whiskers taken in transit. Limcroma is a top tier outfitter Hannes is a standup guy and I don't think something that at this point was out of their control color your decision to hunt with them. Rhino is big business and I hate the situation for all parties involved.

One item of note is that limcroma has a Texas based LLC, more than likely the taxidermist does not. It's pretty hard to sue someone in another country.

From reading the actual lawsuit, Limcroma used SBS Logistics to handle the transfer between them and the airport. The Rhino horns were stolen while in SBS possession, and there seems to be a problem with the delivery of the rest of the shipment.

Just conjecture but.... There is probably rhino hide on the bill of lading but not the accompanying horn. I doubt they will accept two shipments, if the horn was ever recovered, under the one Cites tag

I have made SBS logistics aware of the thread so they can address it.

That would be a USFWS service issue. I can only imagine what a PIA that would be.

On a side note, I'm not bashing Limcroma. Just feeling out the forum. Everyone expects their trip to SA to be smooth and seamless. My expectations would be the same.

I know you are not bashing Limcroma. You just asked a valid question.
It appears there were some issues in transit.
We all know that can happen.... Been there, done that myself.

Defendants Lim Croma, Els, and Trophy Pro (another company owned and managed by Els) chose SBS Logistics (“SBS”).

"the rhinoceros horns were left in an unlocked room at SBS’s facility and taken."

OUCH!

Aside from the lost rhinoceros horns, Mr. Poynter’s trophies have been apparently mired in the defendants’ bureaucratic ineptitude and their unresponsiveness.

In a normal transaction I would say this is on the shipping company and that Limcroma responsibility ends when the horn w a dropped off. Normal being "trophy shipping and taxidermy not included" in the safari.

That being said, the implication of the lawsuit is that the shipping (and maybe taxidermy) was to be included, which would be a completely different story. Like someone said one time, details details....

You know more than I do James, but I think you can ship in more than one container for the same animal. I think it's a PITA, and you have to have all of your ducks in a row, but pretty sure it can be done.

Reading the Chronicle and the lawsuit, it seems the issue in this case comes down to loosing a valuable asset through theft in a country with a large black market in high value fauna.

If you aren't hunting rhino, elephant, lion or leopard. It doesn't seem like it would be much of an issue. If you are hunting one or more of those species, I would have a long hard talk with your agent and Limcroma before you leave. Addendums to contract, etc. You should talk to your agent. He may be able to alieve your concerns. Guaranteed he will be in contact with Limcroma if he isn't already.
