Every year we need to capture some game animals and sell them on auction .The highest price ever paid for a South African Impala was paid this morning in the Bloemhof area. The Impala 27 1/2 inch did sell for a record price of $ 2384.00. This Impala was captured in my hunting area 3 days ago and sold today on a live auction.
This Impala will be used for breeding a new blood line by the new owner. Just a reminder that we do have very big Impala in the Free State and in my hunting area.

This is great news. The fact that record prices are being set indicates to me that the economic base for hunting is sound. That is the best news there could be for the animals.

Yip i do agree it is happening again. Slowly but surely it is becoming better.

Someone wanted some new bloodlines in a big way.
Good someone is sure looking to the future for their place.
Hope they did not take the last big one out from under you Johan. :)

Hells bells i hope we do have one or two more like him but then you never know.
Enjoy your day.

You see game ranchers changing there herd bull often.

That is how you grow the big ones.

James personally i do not like to buy any bulls it just take to long for one impala male to take over a heard of females from another male or males. It is much better to buy females producing animals like him. But then some guys will buy a animal like this one.

On the ranch we did it both ways change out the cows and change out the bulls...just some at a time...

Wild life ranches have the same options...

what is the best way to obtain good blood lines in your herd...that is up to the owner.

Buy changing out the bull he has to make his way in the herd...

sometimes many fences had to be mended until the process was worked out.

Johan, you already have the genes and someone else obviously needed an injection in their herd.
It is also great for marketing to show pictures of your big herd bull/buck/ram. (ethical or not)
There are no bar codes saying where they were shipped from originally.

How old is a Ram like this likely?

It is very good to look at it from all sides and yes i do agree with all said. I am sure tonight somebody is a happy chap both ways. This Impala was not a day older than 5 years. I have seen him a few times the last season but then there is more like him or close, i still think i do have one or two bigger than 28. But the hunting season will tell. I am very conservative with hunting all these big animals i only hunt a number per year nothing wrong with a good looking 23 inch impala. We did put up the fences we need to manage the animals. This is the way i believe. Thanks guys because of you we can keep going.

Selective harvest is the only long term program that will keep you in business.
You have to keep a lot of animals to wait five years for something to grow that large if you want to make a living at it.
Tough business....

It's good to see some one trying to raise big Impala. One of my favorite animals to hunt! I agree selective harvest is the only way to keep big animals for breeding and sustaining good animals for the future!
