WANTED: Northern Namibia Hunt

I'm the Hunter referenced above. While I agree that there are two sides to every story, the fact is, I hunted in August of 2014, I still don't have my animals in the states, and I have paid every bill that has been thrown at me, several that were never disclosed ahead of time.

We, (eight of us, two who had hunted with Peter twice before), arranged our hunt at the DSC, in January of 2014, including animal wants, dietary requests, and liquor requests, all of which Peter assured us would be taken care of. Needless to say, they were not, and first, Peter denied making the deal in Dallas, then stated that the liquor requested was too expensive. If he didn't make the deal, how did he know the price? This fiasco goes on.

Either way, none of the eight of us have any of our animals, and it's not financial, and now, my friend above tells me he received his animals from Africa in four months.

Peter dealt with us through intimidation, and denial, claiming everything that was wrong with our trip was our fault, and assumes no responsibility himself.

5698k, that explains why the animal are not home. I'm guess unless you eat whatever Peter wants you to pay, it's a photo safari hunt. Unless the animals are mounted, I would forget about that hunt and move on. Make you get everything in writing next time. Africa is too good of a hunting destination not to go back.

I HAVE paid everything, that's what I don't understand!! Everything was in writing, and everything on my end was done as agreed. There is nothing else I can do, and nothing I haven't done. Peter simply denies even what was in writing, even when the agreements were presented to him.

Hmm, I'm not sure to what to say? (n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)

Other than this is not a regular occurrence.

I am still in the planning stages for my trip. All of the posts, good or bad, can be useful...............thanks to everyone who has posted here........ I have now received some feedback from Northern Namibia outfitters, and will contact one or two more. Price is not the most important factor for me, but I must mention that trophy fees in Northern Namibia can be quite high.................kudu over $3000 are common, and two places are over $4000. Not for a 60 incher mind you, just for a general kudu trophy........well, as I said, I am still looking and price is only one criteria................FWB

5698k, well I certainly can't refute your side of the story, from my experience this seems out of character for Peter.

On my safaris with him, he always delivered my raw trophies to a taxidermist or shipper for export. If the accounts are settled why won't the expediter ship your trophies?

Well, if I knew that, I'd be doing something. Kings taxidermy in Namibia kept them for at least 16 months, and shipping agent is in no hurry either. My friend above got his animals from three different hunts in four months. I'm sure my experience with Peter is an exception, but one of the members of my party had spent over 300k with him in the past, and he'll never hunt with Peter ever again.

5698..............while I know nothing of this particular experience, I must say that I have stopped using a PH....one that was otherwise quite satisfactory, simply because I could not get my trophies from the taxidermist that he recommended......and he was uninspired about helping me..............just sort of forgot us after the hunt..........so I am paying close attention to all the posts here..................FWB

So sorry to hear, Peter as well as other outfitters today know the power of the Internet and I don't understand why he or anyone would hold up our trophies. Just seems like a bad business move on everyone's part.

I wish you the best and hope you're trophies arrive soon.

Bill,

I seem to recall watching Colorado Buck do quite a few hunting shoes in Northern Namibia and he used a guy named Kobus. He actually hunted all over Naimbia with this guy, but focused on the northern part and the Caprivi. Check out Colorodo Bucks website and I'm sure you get Kobus' info there. May be the same Kobus mentioned in one of the earlier responses

I looked it up, the Kobus he used was Africa Thirstland Safaris. See if they have what your looking for

I had thoughts of bidding on a hunt donated by Thormahlen, but now have second thoughts.......

My animals are finally in New York. The initial taxidermist who dipped and prepared my animals for shipping was Kings Taxidermy in Namibia. Kings had my animals from August 2014, to November 2015. The shipper, Titus Schmidt of Yellow Shark Holding company, was next, and claimed permits and government holiday for his delays. I have 5k in shipping charges so far, and they're not at the taxidermist yet. Peter never brought up these additional charges, and I could find no mention of them on his website.

Had I not had so much invested in the hunt initially, I would have left after two days. There were eight people on this hunt, and we didn't even lay eyes on Peter until day ten, and that was when he explained that everything that was wrong with our hunt was our fault.

After our initial meeting in Dallas in January 2014, the only communication from his organization relative to our hunt came from his wife, Anso. After our arrival in Africa, upon discovering that our promised liquor wasn't in camp, I emailed Anso simply, "the scotch we discussed is not in camp, do you know what happened?". Upon our first meeting in Africa, Peter demanded to why I wrote such a "shit" email to his wife, and demanded to know why we weren't communicating with him!

The two on our hunt who had hunted with Peter twice before were appalled at him, and were totally embarrassed by the whole situation, as they felt somewhat responsible for recommending Peter in the first place. My feeling was that this was disinterest in dealing with just a bunch of "yahoos" who only were interested in plains game. I cannot, and will not give any recommendations for Peter, and likely will not visit Africa again.

K man...............happy your trophies are finally getting closer. With regard to your hunt in Namibia..............there has been ample opportunity for the other side to respond, so despite the old cliche of "two sides to every story"...I will not be booking with your outfitter. On a different note, regarding progress for Northern Namibia, I must clarify a little: every PH that I sent an email or a Private Message to responded, and kindly so. I even met a couple of them here in the States, and was very impressed with them. But ONLY Karl Stumpfe responded directly to this Africa Hunting post and request, and for that I must commend him. Gerrit Utz, of Africa Safari Trails and Lwyk Van Vuren of Leopard Legends have also talked with me personally. All three of these guys have sterling reputations, and I know for a fact that to keep such a good Rep one has to sometimes "eat some costs" even when it's not your fault. That is the extra mile. Your guy may have a different business plan.

I should have something worked out within the month, and hope to get my first glimpse of the Caprivi this year...(regardless of what the history revisionists now call it)....
And lastly, 5698K.......... a company with a name like.... "Yellow Shark Holding Company"..........run by someone named Titus.......does make one wonder.........FWB

Bill, I hope you have a great hunt, good luck!

Per Peters request, here's an exchange that happened this morning.

This sums up my experience with Peter, but as he states, I am only one person.

Whether right or wrong the outfitters extreme sarcasm doesn't sit real well with me.

I'm with you......I can't imagine why anyone would do business with an outfitter that can't conduct himself any better than that.
100% unprofessional and 100% off my list.

@flatwater bill ,

Any closer to deciding on a northern Namibia hunt? Look forward to your report wherever you decide to go
