Hi from the SW Rocky Mountains of Colorado - glad I found this sight which is very informative and friendly.I sure enjoyed my first S.African safari of 10 days in the Limpopo region near Botswana.I had a great time both there and in Capetown after the hunt.I was extremely successful in my safari objectives and a great Gemsbok harvest was a thrill in itself.Looking forward to learning from all the members

Hello all. New member also. Just returned from my first hunt in South Africa. Amazing experience for my entire family (wife and two teenage sons ). Been home 7 days and already planning next trip. Where is the best location to do an outfitter review ?

Thank you.

@Mo Soudani and @Russel. G. Keith

Good evening Gentlemen,

I am currently in the UK and will be here until late August.
Please if there is any questions you have about hunting in South Africa I will gladly do my best to drop by, introduce myself and we can have a chat about hunting. Feel free to send a PM on here or email me directly info@kingsviewsafaris.co.za.

Take care

Hi Everybody, this looks like a great forum and I thank you to be part of this community.

I living some part of the year in Zambia and some part in S-A and I do have a little question to all of you that plan a South African safari :

The Roan is for me one of the most beautiful and attractive plains game and can also be a difficult to hunt, not only because its character as the 2 largest antelope, but also its tough behavior against predators that including lions, add the beautiful in combination of colors.

The negative is that the Roan is a bit expensive to shot even 25 % higher than a Sable and approximate the same as a buffalo in trophy price, is it worth the money ? For me it is, but I think that I see things different and perhaps somehow stereotype and it would be very interesting to know what you think about the Roan Antelope ?

I do not selling hunting or anything commercial, only interested how other fellow hunters see the Roan.

Thank you and best wishes, Gordon
I would love to add the Roan antelope to my collection one day, but as you say the price is just too high for me for just one animal.

Johnny, thanks for your opinion regarding Roan. For me it's one of the most interesting and difficult game to hunt and then I mean it should be hunted in Zambia or eventually in Tanzania or the western Roan up in Cameroon or Benin... not a farmed one in RSA... :p

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm just beginning my research into an African safari and plan to hunt in the next two years with my good friend. Both of us are Africa newbies. I've hunted North American big game, including elk and deer, but Africa is new to me. I'll be doing a bit of research here prior to booking with an outfitter and deciding where to go. So far, everything I've seen on this forum has been a great help. Thank you to all.

Jono,
Glad you like the family motto. Comes from my father's Scottish roots. That is the motto on our family Coat of Arms.

Trying to decide between Namibia or South Africa for a first safari. My hunting buddy is making it tough as he is only interested in one animal, kudu. I'm interested in a few more for my first trip; impala, springbok, blue wildebeest and maybe a warthog. That's my "first trip to Africa wishlist."

Hi thank you for letting me in.

I'm an ex Army officer who is now building rifles (offering some custom Mauser builds soon) and also a shooting instructor (rifle and shotgun).

I'm a keen game shot and stalker but a young family has slowed this a little.

As a teen young adult I spent time growing up in Africa so cut my teeth shooting there also luck to have traveled and shot in N America and Eastern Europe as well Germany and France whilst in the Army.

Thank you for the welcome! Been a member now for a while, just not much of a chat room participant, I read them while searching for information.

My back ground; a USAF retiree, lived and hunted all over the western states including Alaska. Looking to go to Africa fairly soon, maybe in a year or so. A certified rifle loony and passionate handloader. Bow hunter as well but that has taken a back seat in the last several years. I live to hunt, and serve God, sometimes my hunting can tend to pull me away from Him, so I try to watch it. Look forward to looking around this site with more enthusiasm in preparation for my first Safari.

Greg

Hello all, just checking in for the first time. I have a hunt planned for Africa this coming July/Aug. Thought I would do some research before I arrive. What a great wealth of information.

Hi, Would like to hunt in Africa. This site recommended by friend ( who goes by FWB ). He asked me if I wanted to hunt in Africa, and I said that I think every hunter wants to go to Africa. Will get some info here...........Cris Kime
