Me too. I guess we are outliers. A nice fruitcake with lots of nuts and a cup of coffee about 9 o’clock. Hard to beat.
You two are messing things up--there are only 100 fruitcakes world wide....they just keep getting re-gifted over and over. When you guys actually eat one, that's two less in circulation. Nobody else would eat that stuff....

I just received a Collin’s Street Bakery fruitcake today. Love the stuff

Clearly even conservative veterans like Ward Clark are finding the administration's position on Ukraine unintelligible and inexplicable.

In a sense, like Biden, I am beginning to wonder if Trump has any more of a handle on the reality of this situation than his predecessor. He has loyal sycophants lauding this latest effort to win the Nobel Peace Prize while sane realists like Rubio on the inside and Jack Keane on the outside hustle before the cameras attempting to say, "what the President meant to say .........."

Meanwhile, Mooch and his guest evidently conclude either this administration is very nearly criminally naive or complicit with Russian strategic goals. As someone who devoted his professional life to national security issues, the last few days leave me heartsick.

Obviously you guys haven’t had good fruitcake. Substitute dried cranberries for dried currents in your recipe and baste often with good rum for a couple months before the holidays. Yum yum!

At least Z is having none of it. I never thought I’d see the day when the US and Russia were
working together to carve up another country!

Collusion, what collusion!

I’m glad Ukraine rejected this plan but it was basically Russia and the US that divvied up Berlin and Germany after WW2. They pretty much did it to the whole of Europe.
Different circumstances and not exactly apples to apples but fairly close.
I didn’t look closely but the proposal that came out of South Africa showed some promise.

Mamdani holding up a list of the high costs to live in NYC.

I am struggling to find one thing on his list that liberal/socialist policies DID NOT cause.

Let’s discuss one.

The high cost of electricity in NYC. So Democrats vilify coal fired generation for decades. Then pass regulations to force electric producers to spend hundreds of millions each to reduce emissions. Then after they spend that money to reduce emissions . (The cost of course is capitalized and passed on to the rate payer). The state and federal governments policies force the closure of coal fired plants. In favor of green energy.

All the while NYC and New York state have experienced an exodus of its citizens. (NYC lost 500K citizens in the last 10 years). Electric companies recoup their costs just as medical insurance companies do. The costs are spread out among rate payers. Reduce the people paying and the remainder have to pay more. Simple math the liberals don’t think of when passing feel good green legislation.

Rent and housing.

Liberal regulations make it almost impossible to build affordable housing in NYC.

Bringing millions of illegals into a city strains housing, medical, food, education systems.

Simple cause and effect no one seems to remember who caused. Then vote the culprits in to fix the mess they created.

Also, zero proposals to reverse those decisions. For instance instead of building more coal fired plants. Let’s just tax the rich and subsidize everyone else’s electric bill.

Instead of fixing the high costs of Obama care and Universities tuition. Let’s tax the rich and subsidize healthcare and education costs with the stolen money.

A Ukrainian delegation has tentatively agreed to a peace deal.
Apparently this looks much more like the Euro/Rubio deal than the Witkoff / Dmitriev / Vance 28 pt plan. We'll see if the Russians assume they still have leverage through Vance and Witkoff.

Now Hegseth has gone too far: (full disclosure: I am an Eagle Scout - 1976)

"Statement Regarding NPR Story on Scouting and the U.S. Military
Scouting Family,

This morning NPR aired a story about a supposed leaked Pentagon memo directing the U.S. Military to sever ties with Scouting America. According to the story, the draft memo, which has not been sent to Congress, indicates that the Secretary of War plans to cease support for youth in Scouting programs on military bases in the U.S. and overseas, cut support for the National Jamboree, and eliminate increases in pay grade for Eagle Scouts who enlist in the military.

Listen to the story here or you can read the story here.

We are surprised and deeply saddened by this news. The Scouting movement has had a strong relationship with our nation’s military going back more than a century. From the tremendous support of the West Virginia National Guard at our National Jamborees to Scout troops that provide stability for the children of military families deployed around the globe, our nation’s military has walked side-by-side with Scouts for generations. An enormous percentage of those in our military academies are Scouts and Eagle Scouts. Our Scouts and leaders admire and are inspired by our military heroes. Many of our Scouts trade their Scouting uniforms for the uniforms of our nation’s armed forces.

According to the story, the draft memo purports that the Scouting organization is “no longer a meritocracy” and does not hold members to high standards. This view is clearly uninformed. Badges and ranks are not given, they are earned. Just ask any Eagle Scout. Young men and young women alike thrive in Scouting. Scouts wear an American flag on their sleeves and swear a duty to God and country.

Scouting isn’t something we do. It’s something we are.

Scouting will never turn its back on the children of our military families. Just as we always have, Scouts will continue to put duty to country above duty to self and will remain focused on serving all American families in the U.S. and abroad.

Scouting is and has always been a nonpartisan organization. For more than a century, we’ve worked with every U.S. presidential administration – Republican and Democrat – focusing on our common goal of building future leaders grounded in integrity, responsibility, and service. We will continue our efforts to work with the Pentagon to address this critical issue.

At the same time, I encourage each of you to contact your senators and congressional representatives immediately and ask for their support. You can locate contact information for your representative at these links: House and Senate.

Some of you may be discouraged by this news, but, just like the service men and women of our military, a Scout is brave. I see this as a clear call to redouble our efforts. All youth are in crisis today. They need the fun, adventure and the challenging, character-building programs of Scouting more than ever.

Support your local councils. Lift up your fellow volunteer leaders and Scouting families. Let’s prepare the next generation for lives of purpose and impact.
Yours in Scouting,
Roger Krone
Chief Scout Executive
President & CEO
Scouting America"

I think Steven Ambrose said it best, “in 1941 Hitler gambled that his Hitler Youth could out fight Americas Boy Scouts Hitler lost” may not be his exact words but very true.

I read an article this morning in Foreign Policy, where the US-Russia plan gives the US a large portion of the Russian frozen assets. Trump wants the money, imagine that. European countries hold about 75% of the Russian foreign assets, so naturally they want a different distribution. We're talking about several hundred billion dollars.

Follow the money.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
