Any WSM or WSSM.
That's funny! Wish I'd thought of it.A few weeks ago there were a couple threads stating that the .375H&H should be banned from buffalo hunting and it was inadequate for plains game. So I say the .375 H&H!Not really, just stirring some sh@t.
I think we can agree on that. I just get tired of hearing people say that caliber doesn't matter at all, only shot placement counts. And who made the decision to use the particular bullet on the particular game? The shooter. Everything has design/use limitations, and we can’t blame them when the fail to work as designed outside of design parameters. Know your gear
I’ll agree with you on that one! That's funny! Wish I'd thought of it.

yep, we're a bunch of pesky recidivists.Look at all the calibers developed after Nitro was developed. Aside from classic BPE calibers rejigged for nitro 500, 450 etc, look at all the medium bores that became the preferred stalking rifles than the large bores of yesteryear. I’m not saying the calibers made any difference, I’m saying the staunch large bore BPE hunters lamnented about these new small high velocity (at the time) rounds. Just like how people complain about new calibers (CM’s, 6.8 Western) on here.
And how we still fight about mono vs bonded vs cup and core. People are stubborn and resistant to change, but that doesn’t mean that a new calibre doesn’t deserve to exist because someone doesn’t like it. Let the market decide.
I will say that thread was the best, most inventive troll in recent memory. It’s like saying, “Motherhood is only a fad” or “Apple pie and baseball are only for Communist sympathizers”. I can’t believe so many got sucked into such an obvious troll.A few weeks ago there were a couple threads stating that the .375H&H should be banned from buffalo hunting and it was inadequate for plains game. The case volume seems very comparable to the .450 Rigby. If it was loaded down to the .450 Rigby level, could it be a comparable and more pleasant round? Hard to understand why the .450 Rigby is not more popular among the .45 cal fans..460 Weatherby Magnum. Damn, is it’s recoil beastly.
That said, if using well balanced hand loads in a properly extracting rifle… the cartridge itself may be made to work rather efficiently.
Yes, you got it 100% right !The case volume seems very comparable to the .450 Rigby. If it was loaded down to the .450 Rigby level, could it be a comparable and more pleasant round? Hard to understand why the .450 Rigby is not more popular among the .45 cal fans.
They are nasty.460 Weatherby Magnum. Damn, is it’s recoil beastly.

Talking of shot placmentI think the Creedmoor hype is dying off so that’s a start.
Bob has been paged so it will be interesting to see which cartridge he would wipe off the face of the earth.
I have a .280a.i. On a Tikka action and I seem to like the 7mm calibre.
I don’t think shot placement replaces displacement. Both are important but poor shot placement with the wrong calibre or projectile is almost always going to be inadequate and won’t get a clean kill as far as hunting or culling goes.
I think @odonata sums it up providing all the acronyms for a heap of cartridges. Each to their own but I have simply tried to stay with mainstream stuff for availability.
I think there are some gains in this acronym cartridges but I don’t think 100fps is a game changer for the most part. Not in the capacity I’m using them.
300 wsm is actually the best of the wsm range, in my opinion. The win mag is over rated for the amount of powder consumed, doesn’t really matter though, each to their own.Admittedly, I am naive on the WSM detractors. What is the primary complaint when comparing the 300 Win Mag and the 300 WSM?
