A Heym’s Maiden Voyage to Africa

Present “heat of the day” view as I typed the above account. I really, really do not dislike this place. Great trip, “100%” thus far. Still get such a kick out of how frequently “100%” is fit into Zimbabwean conversations.

Anyway, I gotta get my britches and boots back on, time to hunt!

Great report, looking forward to the rest.

Fantastic! What isn't fantastic in Africa?!?!? Enjoy every breath....

Ohhhhhhh sitting there with your boots off - I can feel it. I can also sense the excitement of getting ready for the afternoon’s adventures.

As for the Buffalo - congrats, and don’t make a thing of the bullets. Any recovered bullet is a sign of something that went right. Most certainly the second was a bit more rushed and unnecessary anyhow.

lol…”100%” was my PH Lou Hallamore favorite comment on our hunt this year

This one is a couple days later, was a quarter away shot but smashed through a scapula and shattered the offside humerus. Was possibly the loudest impact I’ve personally heard.

The photo of it with another CEB raptor is for comparison to show how much the body swelled at the hard impact. The other bullet was from the pics above when I used it with the Northfork copper solid. Overly impressed with the performance from all.

In the hustle of the moment, I cannot say whether the swollen CEB was a 470gr or 420gr @MaC Jenkins special. Will weigh both when I get home and report. The one on the right is for sure a 470gr. Used one of the 420gr Mac loaded for me just this morning as well, with devastating performance, but no recovery possible for comparison.

Not planning on shooting Buffalo over 100 yards but had to at least see how the Northfork SS impacted, and with little time and loaded ammo, just took two shots at 100. The higher shot is 450gr NFSS and the lower the 500gr NFSS.

And this this was a bit of luck as I wasn’t so consistent at a 100 a couple days before shooting the factory ammo. Shot mixture of the DGS and DGX, all 8 were within 6-7”, but nothing to write home about so no pics. Gave me the info I needed and good enough for clean up work if needed.

Ahh the honeymoon suite!

That left one looks like a 420 to me Will. But will be interested to hear weight when you get back. Have not seen one personally like that. I’m sure Michael has. I’ve been shooting Raptors & Safari Soilds on African game since 2013. Always have impressed me. Can’t say a bad thing about a northfork either. Just a little more trama from the Raptors. Looks like a great hunt. Hope they find some more quota for you!

Heartiest congratulations, @Wildwillalaska

I recently received the amazing news that the Heym Model 89B boxlock ejector will soon be available in .600 Nitro Express. If this comes to be, then it will be one of the finest .600 Nitro Express doubles to be in current production.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
