Any of you stop a charge with a handgun?

You don't have any reason to protect your clients or any responsibility for the safety of your clients or yourself?

So, how do you protect yourself from a home invasion/intruder or armed robber?

And why should people trust you with a gun in your hand?

What's the name of your business? Can you post a link to your website?
We have zero dangerous game , except the very rare bear and F&G has very strict rules on not shooting them , at the ranch we have no maniacs lurking in the area

Home and personal protection is about standard protocol of a shotgun and a pistol
And when the yard dogs go in alert mode so do I .

I work for a private equity firm and have no need for a website

I don’t understand your particular paranoia and your obsession with my objection about loaded pistols on my personal property ( I find it silly that grown men have to pack heat and then feel the urge to want to pull it out and show it off)

I have a very nice rifle and pistol range , if we choose to go to it

My personal concern about gun safety is for the benefit of everyone including myself

If you have a problem with that please converse with your mirror and then go pound sand :)

Back to the OP , a side arm might help with peace of mind, but is usually ineffective against dangerous game ( I sure as hell ain’t ditching a rifle for a hog leg)

You really don't know who is lurking right outside your property and who can get into your property. Home invasions, armed robberies, murders take place everyday in the U.S.. You being right by the U.S./Mexican border and you claim your property will protect you is laughable. No, you're not safe.

You own a shotgun and a pistol, according to your logic you are paranoid and you don't feel safe even alone by yourself with or without clients. Give up your shotgun and pistol and show the world how brave you are...

And, many dangerous game have been taken with revolvers like cape buffalo.

It has been my experience that an empty chamber is a dead man's gun and that's what we called it in places I've been (not African hunting).
Do I get to carry my sidearm while hunting in Africa? No, unfortunately I don't. Is my rifle not chambered while walking and hunting in Africa? It most assuredly is!
The PH's I've been around who are armed do not carry a handgun to stop DG. The handguns I've seen carried are for dangerous people.

You have no maniacs lurking in your area? How would you know? They generally don't advertise their evil intent. They can appear to be almost anyone, including young women and illegal migrants. I once met the sister of a game warden that was shot and killed by a young man that he caught poaching. A camp full of men that have a history of safe gun handling are less of a threat than a stranger of any kind.

In Africa of course I'm armed with a rifle, but in North America, except when I'm fly fishing in grizzly and moose country where I carry a .44 mag, I never worry about dangerous animals. People with evil intentions are far more common.

If you ever had to deal with dangerous people you might feel differently. I have. We even had one 16 year old girl that went camping with two boys. They decided they wanted to ho into town to the Dairy Queen. When she saw this older guy in his truck she approached him, started to ask a question, then pulled out a handgun and shot him. She got the keys but he wasn't dead and tried to run. One of the boys tackled him. The girl came in with a Buck knife and stabbed him 17 times, making sure he was dead.
There were other men and women that I dealt with that committed murders and attempted murders that I dealt with that might try to.hurt me or someone with.me. so, I'm generally armed. Side arms will always have a round chambered when I am armed. It's a matter of professional training.
Your fear of everyone that has a gun, but does not fear strangers or animals that could be rabid sounds a little anal retentive and paranoid to me.

There is usually a big difference between killing a hunted buffalo and stopping a charge. If you don't kill.him on n the first shot and he has time to get his adrenalin up he can be very hard to stop with any weapon. No handgun would be on my list of weapons to try.it with. It's also possible for an unwounded buffalo to just decide to kill you Remember the American hunter that was killed just last month or the month before?

I am not familiar with that story. Could you please provide a link?

I am aware that people do all sorts of stunts to prove things to themselves or others with all sorts of weapons. Not the fat spear chucker above.

Your question, as I read it, was with regard to a charge. I do not believe any handgun capable of being reasonably carried is much of a choice for stopping any of the DG species.

While a handgun might actually stop a leopard, good luck hitting him.i

I have a few mark sullivan videos that show the largest of doubles in anything but the cns doing basically nothing. Ive used a 454, 480, 475, 500 smith on quite a few dangerous game animals and feel quite comfortable with them. Less power but the fastest 5 or 6 shots one can legally shoot that will do the job.

If you look in "Trending" the story was submitted on Aug.4 by Mtn. Hunter. If my computer skills were better I could do more. There was quite a bit on it at the time, but you can get the run down here.

Do you know if there has been any penetration testing between the hard cast LFN/WFN vs the mono-metal copper/brass specifically for handgun calibers? I was wondering what would be best for dangerous game?

For S&W 500...

420gr Xtreme Penetrator copper...

600gr Hard Cast lead...

Yeah. We did it on large bovines. The monometals handily out penetrate the hardcast. Ran 500 gr hardcasts on one buff out of a bighorn 89 at 1825 fps, with 440 gr at 1725 fps and ceb 400’s at 1760 fps. Both hard casts were on the offside shoulder on the hide. The cebs cut through and kicked up dirt on the offside 6 ft in the air. Not even close. We tested on 10-12 waterbuff/ large bovines every year for 6 years. I can say on cape buff in africa the monometals outpenetrated hardcasts. 476 linebaugh with 420gr wfn’s at 1400 fps vs 300 grain cebs from a 454 at 1620 gps and a bfr 460 at 2000fpd. Monometals win every time

Wow! Thank you. Great info.

Amazing how a much lighter copper or brass mono-metal can out penetrate a much heavier hard cast lead bullet...

Did you ever get the chance to try out the Lehigh Defense/Underwood Xtreme Penetrator?

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc
