Russia's published doctrine for nuclear retaliation is an attack on homeland. This would qualify.
I mean there’s been that threat for over half a century now, at some point the west will have to call its bluff. They’re like a toddler seeing what they can get away with before mommy breaks out the wooden spoon.

How badly could the west cripple the country’s military infrastructure, leaders et al in one night of barrage.

I think Russia has always acted like a Chickenhawk. Shouting and boasting about how powerful they are, when in reality they're weak.

Russia spans 9 time zones only because they have been able to bite off territory from much smaller and weaker enemies. In Ukraine they are getting kicked in the teeth, and Russia will end up toothless for their efforts.

They seem to be pushing the envelope hoping that someone the west has an itchy trigger finger. It just seems like a good time to roll the dice and put them in their place once and for all. No proxy wars, just a full on decimation of military assets, oligarchs, and leadership.

Im no military expert, but when you are fighting a war of attrition as the Ukraine is doing going on 4 years, you need a never ending supply of military hardware and munitions.
Other countries are getting burned out on providing it. Putin is playing the long game. I don't know why Trump wastes his time trying to negotiate, as Putin will never honor any deal, and can't be trusted.
The only way to beat a bully is to hit him hard in the mouth. That would take military intervention by the U.S and other NATO countries.
Is Putin crazy enough to actually use Nukes outside of his sabre rattling threats?
My gut instinct says yes

The armed guy is a former ID deputy Sheriff. The odds are greater that he is on the right than the left. But, at this point no one knows his political leanings.
Don't know his political meanings OR his intent.

Seems the Demoncrats are getting desperate. Murder seems to be all they have left.
This isn't really new. The Leftists have been committing murders since at least the 1960s Remember the Weather Underground, etc?

How many of those nukes are functional? I bet the higher ups at the penta- sorry the Department of War have a pretty good estimate

I think Russia is closer to both military and economic collapse than they will let on.

Ukraine now has several large Russian units cut off and surrounded. In another week or so those Russian units will cease to exist and will be marched off to POW camps. Nearly every low and mid grade officer in the Russian Army has been killed or wounded, and the draftees are green inexperienced cannon fodder. There is no long game for Putin to play.

Ukraine has put possibly 20% of Russian oil and gas production out of action, and the Russian people are finally feeling it.

Sell or give Ukraine an Air Force, missiles to destroy Russian oil refineries and in less than a year Putin will be out of power.

Where are the Russians surrounded? I don’t see anything mentioned by the Institute for the Study of War about it.

Updated report indicates he was someone's personal security, nothing nefarious.

Europe/NATO just needs to down the next Russian aircraft that violates their airspace. Russia will get the message. I belive Turkey did this in 2015 or thereabouts.

And then later on the Turkish pilots were jailed

The Russian Donbas "summer offensive," intended to keep shills like Tucker Carlson (and perhaps our President) convinced of the inevitability of Russian victory, stalled out after little progress and Ukraine has begun a series of counter attacks which have regained territory and surrounded two groups of Russian infantry. At the same time they are seriously damaging the Russian refined products industry which is causing meaningful hardship outside the Moscow region as people search for gasoline and diesel fuel, paying exorbitant prices when they find it. The regime seems to be doing whatever is necessary to provide supplies to the Moscow and St. Petersburg areas.

To date, US leadership has been unwilling to leverage this Ukrainian success. Indeed, today our administration indicated it would scale back support for nations directly confronted by Russia. Most prominently, that includes the Baltic States which the Russians threatened with MIG-31 aircraft yesterday.

Putin is in a shrinking trap of his own creation. Sadly, rather than strong Western leadership capable of exploiting the situation, Putin would seem to be blessed with allies named Trump and Vance.

Without inside information, how would anyone outside of Russia really know the status and condition of Russia's nuclear arsenal?
Even if only half of their estimated total of missiles are functional, it's more than plenty enough for a Nuclear Armageddon.

Where are the groups surrounded and why hasn’t this been widely reported?

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
