There may be no such thing as the perfect bullet, but which one would you choose to load your favorite 375H&H rifle if you could only take one with you to deal with a variety of situations: a buffalo in a herd or a lone Danga Boy, a wildebeest or an eland, in open or closed terrain?

While I like the Barnes TSX and used it for my Buffalo, I would use the 300 gr AFrame if at all possible as an all around bullet if you can get them. I used the AFrame from my 375 on eland it hammered him with one shot and went 10 yards and down

No North Fork, cause that’s what I’d use 350gr SPS followed by CPS

TSX is a great bullet, but in a .375, I have developed more confidence in the A Frame - whoever loads it.

You said factory loaded so I said federal swift combo, but will continue to use 300 gr North Fork in my own loads, killed everything from Buffalo to Klipspringer with a large Eland and Giraffe thrown in, plus a host of mid sized tough beasts such as Sable, Wildebeest, Kudu etc.

For factory ammo either the 300 gr TBBC or the A frame IMO.
I used handloaded 300 gr Peregrine Bushmaster bullets in my 375 Ruger for a buff, black wildebeest, steenbok, impala and blesbok last hunt. Hit them all like a hammer.

I'm curious. My 375 has killed two buffalo and five plains game, all with one shot kills, using a 300 gr Nosler Partition. What's wrong with this bullet that it doesn't have a big following?

As you've proven, the Partition will do the job. But in short, the others are better. The bonded and monometal bullets expand as well but retain more weight, typically all of their weight.

I used my handloads with Barnes 235g TSX for pg except for eland, sable and buf. Barnes handloaded 350g TSX for them.

I voted Swift A Frame. I don’t care if it’s Federal ammo, Swift, Pendleton, or others though. I have equal confidence in trophy bonded bear claw. They’ve both performed exactly as they are supposed to for medium PG up to Cape buffalo for me. Always the same recovered bullet as the advertising.

Federal Premium 300Gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw. It has been serving me extremely well since 1993.

That said, in recent years… Federal has unfortunately reduced the velocity of these cartridges to 2400 FPS. Still adequate for most shots on Cape buffalo, although penetration is slightly impeded during quartering away shots or end-on-end shots.

Federal’s 300Gr Swift A Frame loading has a slightly better velocity at 2450 FPS. Still lower than the Swift factory loading (which produces 2503 FPS), but it does the job sufficiently well.

The Swift factory loading gets my vote as the No. 1 general purpose .375 Holland & Holland Magnum cartridge for general purpose African hunting usage (barring elephant of course; which exclusively mandate solids). Unfortunately, Swift practically never has it in stock since the outbreak of the Chinese Virus in 2020.

270 gr tsx has the edge over the 300 in 375. Not on the menu for votes, but it should be.

I’ve shot both buffalo and plains game with both TSX and Swift AF. I voted TSX, but that’s just because I’ve used them more over my hunting career than the Swift. But both bullets have performed admirably on every game animal I’ve shot with them. Wish I could vote for both.

For buffalo, I’d prefer the Barnes TXS, but for all around, the Swift would be my choice. Although I shot my buffalo with a .416 Ruger and a 400gr TSX, my other rifle was a .375 loaded with the Swifts in case that was what was in my hands if a buff showed up.

I've taken multiple buffalo with each of these, Barnes TSX, Hornady DGX and Swift Aframes. Quite honestly, they have all worked wonderfully well. For my hunt next week I am taking factory loaded Federal Swift Aframes, they just shoot wonderfully well out of my rifle.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
